Dorothy pondered for a moment and then grinned lightly. "Let's bring Austin along. He's contributed the most to this project. If you only bring me to network, Austin might get jealous."
Lane chuckled helplessly. "Alright, if you say so. But I'm genuinely curious about how your husband managed to win you over."
She was bright and tactful, always maintaining a certain distance from people without ever causing any discomfort. She was approachable yet somewhat inaccessible at the same time.
What would one have to do to earn a place in such a woman's heart?
Dorothy didn't respond to his question. After all, that story was too much for even her to think about.
...
Everglow City Airport.
Once Lane left the construction site, he headed straight to pick someone up.
Perhaps it had been a while since he'd seen his friend, and he was missing him.
As soon as the clock hit the right hour, he saw the man walk out of the airport. He was alone, with no luggage in sight.
"Over here!" Lane waved his hand and rushed forward to greet him with a tight hug.
"Can you tone down the enthusiasm? People might get the wrong idea." The man complained, but had a beaming smile on his face.
Lane laughed and patted his shoulder. "You're still as handsome as ever! You haven't been breaking girls’ hearts back home, have you?"
"Me? With my workaholic boss? I don't even have time to go hunting. It's a tough life, buddy."
"You better not tell me you have unsuitable thoughts about my crush?”
"Judging by your reaction, if I said yes, you'd be ready to put me back on the plane, right?" The man laughed heartily and shook his head. "I'm just curious, that's all. Don't worry, you couldn't even make a move on her, so I'm not going to overestimate my abilities."
He thought that having a wife like her would provide reassurance. She was immune to temptation and would faithfully follow her husband.
The car kept going until it finally stopped in front of a hotel.
Just as Jeffrey was about to get out of the car, Lane stopped him and warned him carefully. "She doesn't like jokes much, so don't go overboard."
"Don't worry! I've got to make a good impression on your future wife.'"
Jeffrey waved his hand, smiled as he got out of the car, and looked up.
There was a familiar face he would never forget.
Dorothy.
