She suddenly stopped talking, and that's when Everett met her gaze.
"What? Doubting your own skills?"
There was a brief pause before she replied, "Thanks for the trust, Mr. Lopez. I'll do my best."
Dorothy decided to stop overthinking. She chose not to look too closely even if things were unclear to her. An opportunity was right in front of her. No matter what his motives were, it was a good thing for her.
If that project went smoothly, not to mention paying back Everett within a year, her mother's medical expenses wouldn't have been a problem in the future.
"Stop at Tranquil Crossroads." Everett suddenly spoke.
The driver quickly nodded and found a place to stop.
Only then did Dorothy realize they were near her alma mater.
"Would like to take a walk?" Everett asked, raising an eyebrow.
She nodded and said, "Sure."
Dorothy didn't have many memories of her junior high days, but Everett was definitely a vivid one.
Walking down the school road again, she nostalgically took out her phone, took a photo, and carefully stored it in her cloud album.
"Do you still play basketball?" Seeing the newly built sports field, she remembered Everett from back then.
Other boys came back from basketball all sweaty, but only he didn't. Even if it meant being late for class, he would run to the dormitory's public bathroom for a shower.
She was still young back then and hadn’t realized that he was a clean freak. She had even accidentally dirtied his uniform a few times.
"I play occasionally." Everett walked her outside, his tall figure blocking some of the moonlight, casting a shadow on her.
"Sure, take a seat over there." The lady pointed to a spot nearby, and just as she was about to get the utensils, she had a realization and said, "Hey, you look familiar!"
Dorothy smiled, "I'm Dorothy. I used to help out here in junior high."
"Ah, you're that little girl! I knew you looked familiar!" The lady was warm-hearted and started chatting with her, "You must have graduated from junior high school by now!"
"It's been a few years since I graduated."
"You're even prettier now! I told my husband back then that you'd grow up to be a beauty, and now look! I was right!"
Dorothy simply smiled. She liked their friendly vibe. Even after so many years, there was no awkwardness.
"Do you close up early now? I remember you used to wait until after junior high's night self-study sessions."
"We always close when it gets dark." The lady thought for a moment, and then remembered something, "Oh, right! Back then, there was a tall, handsome boy. He gave us some money to keep the place open until 10 p.m. every night."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
