"Hayden, things have been in chaos for the past two days. It would be better if you don’t attend Chelsea’s funeral."
It was Freddie’s voice along with some audio tuning noises coming from the other end of the phone.
"It's fine if I'm not aware, but I can't be absent knowing that there's a funeral. She’s dead, I should at least pay my respect, there is nothing more to argue for.”
Hayden tidied up her black shirt and pants in front of the mirror, she made a ponytail and she heard Freddie’s sigh through her wireless earpiece.
"Alright then, be careful. I can't leave now, but I might be able to make it, a little late though."
"Okay."
Hayden said yes and told him "Be safe on the way" before she hung up.
The incident of Chelsea fell off a building was said to be an accident at first, but after questioning a few directors who were present at the scene, it was revealed that she jumped. It was all chaotic at the scene.
And Sofia Mason was the starter of all this chaos.
Chelsea had died, her uncle had at least handled the situation quite well, he contacted everyone he could, including Hayden.
Apart from the wreaths, there was only black and white at the funeral. There were not many guests. Hayden thought she mixed up the time at first, but on second thought, who would want to get involved with the Downey Group after what happened?
Chelsea bowed in front of the grave and walked towards Chelsea’s uncle. "Sorry for your loss."
"Yeah." Chelsea’s uncle nodded, his eyes seemed red, "Despite slightly bad in temperament, Chelsea was a good girl."
Hayden couldn't disagree more, but she didn’t say anything out of respect to the deceased, she simply nodded and ready to walked away.
"Wait."
Chelsea’s uncle called, "Chelsea jumped off the building due to extreme stress after what happened to the company, as a daughter, don't you think you are responsible too?
Hayden frowned when she heard that, but she remained calm, "I do not hold any share of Downey Group, Daddy left me nothing in his will and I have nothing to do with the company. If you are still confused, you may call Lionel…"
"I'm not talking to a lawyer, I want to talk to you."
The middle-aged man looked blue. "Brook messed up everything and left, you are his daughter, you can't just stand by and do nothing."
Hayden found it funny and she said sarcastically.
"None of you stood up for me when the will was announced."
"That's a completely different story."
Chelsea Uncle’s face turned gloomy, "You need to clear things up with us today in front of Chelsea, this company belongs to the Downey family, who should take charge if you don't?"
"Whoever that cares can take charge!"
Freddie’s voice was heard from a corner, Hayden was still puzzled when she was pulled behind a man by someone. She raised her head and saw Cleveland Sanchez who was by Freddie’s side.
"Bring my sister out of here."
Freddie ordered Cleveland. He then took off his sunglasses and swept a glance at everyone fiercely.
Hayden was pulled away by Cleveland while Freddie was speaking.
"Birds of a feather flock together indeed. I knew there was a motive behind that invitation card. Why? Are you trying to bully my sister who has no one by her side? You want her to clean up this mess? You disregarded her when you split the fortune but now suddenly realized Brook Downey has another daughter after he messed up? There's no free lunch in this world.
"We can't leave Freddie alone amongst those wolves…" Hayden was worried.
"It's fine." Cleveland walked without turning back, he put Hayden inside a car and explained," There are people with him."
Hayden looked towards a crowd of people following Cleveland’s sight.
"Who are you to speak"?
Chelsea uncle's ferocious look was showing, he spoke meanly," You are Freddie right? You are nothing but a stray dog picked up by the Downey family, what right do you have to get involved?"
