Leopold's gaze was casting a profound depth in his eyes.
"Let's handle this in person once we're back tomorrow. It's hard to get to the bottom of it through text messages," he said.
"Sounds good." Aurelia set down her phone, her thoughts drifting to something Jelena had mentioned that Sheryl had been a mistress."
Could she possibly know the truth? But it was better to confirm face-to-face.
Joyce crossed her mind, and a wave of sadness washed over her. She couldn't let Jelena follow in those footsteps.
"Poor Chloe, I remember her being so bubbly. She was probably the prettiest woman I've ever seen. Sheryl is attractive too, but can't hold a candle to Chloe," Aurelia Said, "She must have really loved Fredric. To be betrayed by both her lover and best friend, it's no wonder she couldn't cope and fell into depression before taking her own life. Sheryl truly did cross the line in that entire debacle."
Leopold's fingers tapped on the tabletop as he drawled, "So maybe Jelena's getting close to Fredric was her way of seeking revenge."
His tone was light, but it sent Aurelia's emotions into turmoil, nearly causing her to spit out the water she'd just sipped.
"What did you just say? You think Jelena got involved with him on purpose, to get back at Sheryl and Fredric?"
"Why not?" Leopold arched an eyebrow, "You and Jelena grew up together. Do you really think someone with her character would fall for a playboy like Fredric?"
“No way!” Aurelia thought to herself, recalling her shock when she first sensed something between Jelena and Fredric.
But she said, "Who knows? I wouldn't have fallen for someone as domineering and aloof as you either, yet here I am, accepting you. Maybe Jelena accepted Fredric because they had sex."
Leopold choked momentarily.
He was about to flare up but instead, he cleverly masked his anger with a teasing tone.
"So you're saying you've fallen for me now?"
"Don't flatter yourself. I'm just getting used to you," she retorted, a battle she was determined not to concede.
