Chapter 129
Aurelia had a healthy appetite and wasn’t picky about her food. Since she got pregnant, he hadn’t seen her suffer from any significant morning sickness. It was nice, really. No need to worry about his kiddo. experiencing malnutrition.
Elowen sat at a different table, but her gaze never strayed from him.
Following his gaze, she spotted Evelyn.
Her heart pounded with jealousy!
As the banquet was winding down, Aurelia got up, planning to head for the restroom. Evelyn’s voice came from the side, “Manager Aurelia, aren’t you going to propose a toast? Now’s not the time.” Her voice was low and soft, meant only for the two of them to hear.
Aurelia smiled with embarrassment as she replied, “No, I just drank too much juice and need to use the
restroom.”
Since getting pregnant, it seemed like her bladder had shrunk.
Evelyn seemed like she wanted to say something, but her mouth moved without any words coming out.
Aurelia made her way outside.
Just as she reached the banquet hall entrance, a shriek echoed.
She turned around to see Evelyn jumping up from her chair. The waitress serving soup somehow messed up, spilling the hot liquid onto her legs.
“So painful!” She collapsed onto the floor in agony.
Leopold rose from his seat and rushed over.
“Leo… Mr. Leopold!” A tear slipped from Evelyn’s eye. Her leg was blistered and red, causing everyone to
wince.
“I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Leopold scooped her up and began heading for the exit.
Cradled in his strong, warm arms, Evelyn suddenly felt the pain in her leg ebb away.
His concern was the best painkiller.
Aurelia stood by the entrance, watching them walk past.
Her heart was twinged strangely. Suddenly, she remembered the last time Leopold had carried her like this, rushing out of the banquet hall!
She quickly turned and left, fearful of betraying any signs of her feelings.
“Leopold” Elowen was near tears, standing up to follow them but was held back by Elara.
“Calm down, we’ll deal with it later.”
How could Elowen possibly calm down? She felt like she wanted to die.
Aurelia entered the restroom with a sour feeling in her heart. It must be from drinking too much juice.
When she returned, the banquet hall was back to normal as if the earlier incident had never occurred.
Leopold was back.
He had put Evelyn in a car, asked his secretary to take her to the hospital, and returned to the banquet hall.
At such an important event, he couldn’t just leave.
Aurelia and Evelyn’s seats were quickly cleaned up and new chairs brought in.
“Is Ms. Evelyn alright?” she asked.
Emily clucked her tongue, “That waitress was careless. Lucky you weren’t here, or you would’ve gotten hurt
too.”
Aurelia felt a chill down her spine. She was pregnant, so a burn injury would be disastrous.
She couldn’t even use anti–inflammatory drugs.
Thank God for her sudden need to use the restroom, she had escaped disaster.
“Huh, wasn’t the waitress supposed to serve dishes next to Director Chris? Why did she come our way?”
