Chapter 152
“Big boss isn’t really gonna call off the engagement, is he?” Jenny stuck out her tongue.
“Who knows? It’s not a small matter, but it’s not exactly a big deal either. It all depends on how it’s handled,” Darcy replied.
Lily pouted. “If the engagement is really off, wouldn’t that make Evelyn the CEO’s wife?”
Aurelia took a sip of her water, standing up. “A marriage proposal set by Mr. Chad isn’t something easily dismissed. Let’s stop gossiping and get some lunch.”
With that said, everyone stopped their chit–chat, closed their laptops, and left the office together.
In the afternoon, a memo was sent from management.
A team–building event was being held this weekend at Greystone Hollow.
Aurelia was somewhat excited. She always loved company team–building events.
Unfortunately, due to her pregnancy, she couldn’t fully participate in the activities.
For the next two days, Leopold was out of the office, on a business trip.
The apartment was unusually quiet. After dinner, she would lounge on the sofa and binge–watch her favorite shows.
For some reason, she felt a little bored. Even though Laura sat beside her, watching the shows with her, she still felt a pang of emptiness, as if something was missing.
Thursday was the airing of Avery’s reality show, “Dream for Young.”
After dinner, she sat in front of the TV, waiting for the show to start.
Suddenly, the door opened, and she turned her head to see a familiar, handsome figure.
Leopold was dressed in a custom–tailored suit. It was clear that he had come straight from the airport, as he hadn’t changed his clothes.
“Mr. Leopold, you’re back so soon?”
Soon?
Leopold’s eyebrows furrowed. Why did it feel like these past two days were especially long, as if each day
had 72 hours?
Laura came out from the kitchen. “Have you eaten, sir?”
“I ate on the plane.” Leopold took off his suit and handed it to her, then headed to the bathroom.
When he emerged, he was dressed in a deep blue robe, looking fresh and irresistible.
Aurelia’s gaze lingered on him, and she couldn’t help but admire him.
The man was too handsome, his looks and physique were out of this world.
The line of women who liked him probably could wrap around the equator several times.
But because he was so aloof, they didn’t dare to express their feelings, only secretly admiring him. Only the Elowen and Evelyn were brave enough to step out of line.
Leopold leaned slightly towards her, one hand resting on the back of the sofa, the other gripping her chin. “Why are you staring at me? Could it be that you missed me?”
Aurelia’s cheeks flushed, and she quickly shook her head, resembling a bobblehead. “How could that be? I neither have the right nor the guts to miss you!”
A cold, mocking smile appeared on Leopold’s lips. “You indeed don’t have the right.” But the guts, she certainly did have.
Aurelia always kept her place in mind. She was just a vessel. His disdain for her was something she was
used to.
But today, for some reason, her heart ached slightly, as if she’d been pricked.
She picked up an orange and started to peel it, seemingly trying to alleviate her uneasy feelings.
