Chapter 175
A single, lingering sentence left her frozen in her seat. All the horror stories she had read on the internet, the awful news reports, flooded her mind like a high tide.
Without her family around, wouldn’t her very life be entirely in his hands?
In his eyes, she was nothing more than a vessel. Her life didn’t mean a damn thing to him!
What if she had complications during childbirth and the doctor had to choose between her and the babies? He would definitely choose the babies.
It wouldn’t matter if the vessel died, as long as the babies were safely delivered.
Lost in her thoughts, her eyes grew wider, her face pale as a sheet, her lips slowly losing their color.
Leopold, ever observant, noticed her distress and flicked her forehead. “What are you thinking now?”
She swallowed hard, trying to ease the knot in her throat caused by her fear. “I’m just worried… about the childbirth… about the risks.”
Leopold looked at her, his gaze deep and sharp. “Don’t worry, I’ve hired the best obstetric team. I won’t let anything happen to you or the baby.”
She picked up her glass of water and took a sip. “I’m… a virgin. I’ve never done… that before. Will it be… more difficult for me?”
Keeping her head down, she spoke in a whisper, stuttering, as if she were a mosquito buzzing.
The moment she finished speaking, she regretted it. Damn it! Was she out of her mind, what was she talking
about?
Unfortunately, Leopold had heard her clearly. His gaze fell on her innocent figure, warming slightly.
Leaning in, he propped one hand on the back of the couch and the other on the armrest, essentially encircling her. His strikingly handsome face was so close to her, it was practically touching hers.
“Do you want to try it?”
Her cheeks flushed, she instinctively leaned back, trying to keep some distance between them,
“No, no, that’s not what I meant. I want my first time to be with a man I truly love.”
His brows furrowed, his expression suddenly turning cold, as if he had been hit by a blast of arctic air. “Are you thinking of cheating?”
She was completely flustered, “I meant after we divorce.”
In Leopold’s eyes, the spark of desire mingled with the coldness, creating a chilling heat.
“Being my successor isn’t easy. Unless someone doesn’t value their life.”
She gasped. In the future, she couldn’t marry a man with such a strong possessive streak, “Once we’re divorced, we’ll have no connection. You won’t have any right to interfere with my life.”
