Chapter 309 

Three years later… 

Nestled within the serenity of Long Island, in a beautiful tulip–decked villa, a stunning woman was painting in the garden. 

Her brown hair, cascading over her shoulders like a waterfall, billowed gently in the breeze. 

A little boy ran out from the house. His exquisite face, as though sculpted by Venus herself, radiated an extraordinary charm under the sun’s rays, enough to make even angels blush with envy. 

“Mommy, what are you painting?” 

“Geese. It’s their season to fly in from the south.” 

Aurelia caressed her son’s head. Every time she looked at his little face, it reminded her of Leopold and Kane. 

Leopold must have forgotten her by now. To him, she was a disposable presence. Her only hope was that his new wife would be kind to Kane. 

Grasping her cane, she rose from her seat. 

These past three years had been hard. The doctors had said that she might be wheelchair–bound for life, but she refused to accept that. She sought treatment, underwent physiotherapy, and finally managed to stand on her own again. 

However, her left leg still felt weak and relied on the support of the cane. 

“William, where’s your daddy?” 

“Daddy’s cooking, there’s confit duck!” the little boy responded in his sweet, childish voice. Aurelia smiled, leading him into the house. 

Arnold brought out the duck from the kitchen. 

“Smells so good.” The little guy licked his lips. He loved daddy’s confit duck the most. 

Aurelia laughed, “We’re so lucky to have a man who cooks so well.” 

She was grateful to Arnold. He had saved her and Liam. He had stayed by her side, unwavering. He had encouraged her, cared for her, and had given her the strength to stand again. 

Arnold looked at the mother and son, his fondness for them apparent, “Dinner will be ready soon.”

He knew that these past three years of happiness were stolen from Leopold. 

When she had first woken up, he was afraid that she would want to return to Elysium, to Leopold 

But she chose to stay. With him! That had sent him over the moon. 

What did it matter if the happiness was not belonging to him? As long as he could keep her by his side, even if the whole world scorned him, he didn’t care! 

He went back to the kitchen and brought out potato salad, pan–seared cod, and a mushroom chicken soup. 

Aurelia served him a bowl of soup, “Daddy worked hard.” 

She looked at Arnold, her big eyes twinkling with stars. 

In truth, the reason she chose to stay, besides her paralysis, was the fear of seeing Leopold, 

He had always despised her, looked down on her. Now, as a paraplegic, she thought he would discard her like an old shoe, to loathe her till death, and wouldn’t even let her see 

their children. 

Letting him believe she was dead might be the best outcome? If he felt a shred of guilt, he would protect Kane, and prevent his stepmother from bullying or hurting him. 

Arnold tasted the soup, and with a gentle smile, suggested, “How about we go to Hawaii 

for a vacation this winter?” 

“Sure!” William clapped his hands in excitement. He loved vacations. 

Arnold laughed, ruffling his hair, “Then let’s plan for it. We’ll leave this weekend.”
