Chapter 349
As she pondered, Leopold’s voice rang out again, “Tomorrow night, there’s a great play for kids. How about we bring William along so he can get to know Kane better?”
“Sure,” Aurelia agreed with a nod.
The next day, William wore a frog mask, looking adorable.
If it wasn’t for the fact that Arnold had been busy with work these past few days, he wouldn’t have come. He took a bear mask out of his backpack and handed it to Kane, “Here, let’s both wear masks.”
Kane nodded and put on the mask. The two of them instantly looked like a pair of twins.
This made Leopold think of Liam.
Years ago, his subordinates had found the charred remains of a child in the ruins of a burnt wooden cabin. The body was too badly burned to extract DNA, but the child’s DNA was found in an unburnt milk bottle, confirming it was Liam.
He didn’t dare tell Aurelia about this. If she knew Liam was gone, she’d be heartbroken and would never forgive him.
He took Aurelia and the kids to an Italian restaurant for pizza.
After taking a sip of his soda, William licked his lips and said, “Mr. Ice, can you not be my stepdad? I don’t want a stepdad.”
Leopold put a slice of pizza on his plate and said, “Okay, you can consider me as your real dad.”
Hearing it, Aurelia choked and quickly took a sip of her lemon water to cover her guilt. If one day he found out that he was indeed William’s biological father, he’d be furious.
Making a face at Leopold, William said, “I already have a real dad, and I can only have one.”
Leopold raised his hand and ruffled his hair, “What’s wrong with having one more person who loves you?”
William’s eyes twinkled with mischief, “Then, can you do me a favor?”
“What favor?” Leopold asked.
Blinking, William said, “Can you make my stepmom go away?”
This was a favor Leopold couldn’t grant. He took a sip of his coffee and looked at him seriously, “William, I have no right to interfere in your father’s affairs. As a child, you shouldn’t meddle in adults‘ business either.”

Puffing his cheeks, William retorted, “Children are part of the family too. Why don’t adults consider us when they make decisions?”
Leopold replied, “The world of adults is complicated. I can’t explain it to you now, but you’ll understand when you grow up.”
Aurelia wrapped her arm around William’s shoulder, saying, “Honey, I promise you that I’ll always be with you.”
William looked at her with wide eyes, “And what about dad? Will he leave?”
Aurelia fell silent, unsure of how to respond.
Across the table, Kane said, “Your dad is my dad’s real brother. We’re all family, so he won’t leave.”
William had nearly forgotten about that, and it made him feel a little better.
He was especially afraid that Arnold would stop loving him and abandon him once his stepmom had a new baby.
Because… He stole a glance at Leopold. The last time Kane suggested that Mr. Ice might be his real father, a seed of doubt had been planted in his heart.
