Chapter 396
Could she possibly be expected to thank him?
Was she supposed to thank him for cheating on their marriage, for rekindling his old flame with his first love, or for returning her freedom?
Aurelia felt it could not be more sarcastic.
Perhaps Leopold had never cared about her or taken her as an equal partner in their marriage.
“Why should you be the one to decide whether we divorce or not? I may be of low birth. I may be just another blade of grass in the field. But I have my dignity. I’m not a tool you. can summon and dismiss at will!”
She pulled the divorce papers out of her bag, tearing them up with a fury. With a flick of her fingers, the shredded pieces floated in the air like snowflakes before falling down onto the floor.
“I’m not getting a divorce. I won’t make it easy for you and Megan. What goes around comes around, Leopold. Don’t ever think about the divorce.”
Leopold was astonished by her unexpected reaction. He assumed she would sign the papers without hesitation just like three years ago, throw them back in his face, and storm off in a huff.
He hadn’t anticipated that she would tear up the divorce papers. She was always full of surprises.
He grabbed the coffee from the table, downing it in one gulp. The bitterness hit him like a punch, spreading from his tongue to his gut.
“You once said that you could easily let go. Why can’t you now? Have you fallen for me?”
His voice wavered as he spoke, simple words carrying a world of hope.
A single nod from her would be worth it, even if it cost him his life.
But Aurelia just scoffed. “How could I fall for someone cold and heartless like you? I’m doing this for Kane. My son won’t live under the shadow of a stepmother.”
She wasn’t a moth drawn to the flame. Loving him would be self–destruction, and she wasn’t that foolish. Even though she had given him a piece of her heart, she would find a way to take it back from him.
Her words were like a sharp knife to Leopold’s heart.
She was doing this for Kane. He knew she hadn’t fallen for him. Once they divorced, she would likely return to Arnold’s arms.
Chapter 396
Thankfully, Lisa was pregnant. Arnold couldn’t get a divorce, giving him time to win her back.
He took another sip of his coffee, his expression instantly turning cold.
“A marriage without love is like a grave. There’s no point in holding onto it. My decision is final, whether you agree or not.”
“Don’t forget the Stirling family rules. If you dare, call a family meeting. Remember, you’re the one at fault here, not me.”
Aurelia walked out and headed towards the door. As she turned, she saw Megan approaching.
Upon seeing Aurelia, a cold glint flashed in Megan’s eyes. She hurried to the door, squeezing past Aurelia.
Aurelia smirked. The door was indeed too narrow to fit three people.
