Chapter 4
“1. I am ready”
Swallowing hard, she glanced at Leopold, who was seated nearby
Hed followed her into the operating room, as if to ensure she wouldn’t get cold feet from the operation.
“Mr. Leopold, could you please step out? Don’t worry, I’ll go through with the surgery.”
She was still an unspoiled girl, after all, a little privacy would be nice!
Leopold, sold as ice, didn’t respond to her at all, “Proceed with the scan.”
What scan?
Just as Aurelia was wondering, the doctor had already placed the ultrasound probe on her abdomen.
“There are two gestational sacs, it’s twins! They’re a month and a half old.”
What?
She was pregnant with twins?
Aurelia’s heart tightened, and she instinctively shut her eyes, not daring to look at the ultrasound screen.
Two small lives, soon to be extinguished, it was somewhat distressing.
Leopold, however, kept his eyes on the screen, a subtle light flickering in the depths of his gaze,
“The operation is over. Change your clothes and come with me.”
What?
Aurelia was stunned, opening her eyes to look at him, fearing she may have misheard.
“The operation… hasn’t begun yet.”
Leopold didn’t explain, glancing at his watch, “Five minutes. No dawdling.”
Aurelia was utterly confused by his intentions.
Had the big boss changed his mind because of twins?
Once they were in the car, she was somewhat fearful, curling up next to the window, occasionally sneaking a peek at the man beside her.
His handsome face was devoid of emotion, like a mask of ice.
Reading the boss was like looking for a needle in a haystack, utterly inscrutable!
The driver in the front turned back to give Leopold an update, “Ms. Elowen was lingering outside the maternity ward, we’ve managed to distract her.”
Leopold gave a slight nod, “Drive.”
How could he possibly go through with the abortion? It was all a smoke and mirrors act.
Aurelia had no clue what was going on in his head, her mind in a whirl, “Where are we going?”
Leopold pulled out a stack of papers from his briefcase and handed it to her, “Sign here, put your thumbprint there.”
What was this?
A prenuptial agreement!
What did this mean?
She skimmed it quickly, almost dropping it in shock.
2 2 2 3 2 3 5 £ 3 = 9 9 £ £ £
The gist of it was that the big boss intended to marry her, let her give birth to the children, then divorce her.
But…
“I can give birth to the baby, but do I have to get married?”
Later when she was to get married again, she’d be considered a “divorcee“, which was kind of awkward!
Leopold didn’t want to marry her either, but the Stirling family had always prioritized legitimate children.
The main reason he was able to overcome his three brothers and inherit the family business, apart from his exceptional abilities, was that he was the legitimate son.
Therefore, his children had to be legitimate too.
“Getting married is necessary!” He said.
