“You’re aware that I’ve contracted a superbug from the Amazon, right?” 

Her mother had mentioned that Leopold was handling all affairs during her hospital stay. So, he must know about her condition. 

A jolt passed through Leopold’s heart, but his expression remained calm, “What are your implying?” 

She wanted to tell him that it was Megan who had poisoned her, who had infected her with the deadly superbug, but the words died on her lips. 

He wouldn’t believe her, would he? Megan was his sweetheart, always innocent and beautiful in his eyes. 

Unless she had solid proof to corner Megan with, he would think she was framing her. She had to be subtle. 

“How could I have contracted an Amazonian bug living in Elysium? Someone must have wanted to harm me, maybe even poison me?” 

Leopold’s face was devoid of emotion. His eyes were deep and inscrutable, as if they held a thousand secrets, “Who do you suspect?” 

“Who do you think would benefit the most if I died?” She retorted. 

Leopold gazed at her intensely, knowing what she was hinting at. She was beginning to suspect Megan. But she probably wasn’t aware of the antibiotics yet, or she wouldn’t be so calm. 

“I’ll handle this. You don’t have to worry.” His coldness and indifference tore Aurelia’s heart into pieces. 

Suddenly, she realized that he must have been the first person to know about her infection after the doctors. Did he not suspect Megan at all? Was he still hanging out with her? Did he love and trust her that much? 

“Is my life of no value to you? You don’t care at all, do you?” Tears welled up in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks uncontrollably. 

“It doesn’t matter. We are nothing to each other now. I will find out the truth on my own. I won’t sit back and let the person who wants to harm me walk free.” 

She wiped her tears stubbornly and stormed off, only to be pulled back by him. 

“What do you plan on doing? Act impulsively and put yourself at risk, just like you did three years ago?” 

“I don’t need you to worry about me!” She pushed him away in anger, trying to break free

from his grip. But he didn’t let go. Instead, he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. 

Her words shattered his facade of calmness, 

“You’re not to do anything. The only thing you need to do is take care of yourself. Do you understand? ” He was practically shouting, his voice echoing painfully in her ears and breaking her heart.
