Chapter 46
Leopold abruptly leaned in, propping his arms on either side of her, his towering figure enveloping her. An Intense sense of oppression engulfed her, “So you actually know what Infidelity is, surprising!”
She shrank back, clutching the duvet. She was mustering up the courage to reason with him.
“Engaging with someone other than your lawful spouse is called infidelity. Even though our marriage is pretend, we are legally married. You said that yourself.”
Her words only fanned his anger, his brows knotted into a line of wrath.
“Isn’t it infidelity to flirt with men other than your legal husband?”
“Of course,” she agreed instantly, “but I have never done such a thing. I have normal friendships and I never flirt.”
She lied so smoothly, clearly a seasoned offender!
Leopold snorted, his eyes mocking, “Who’s that ‘perfect‘ specimen you were gushing about?”
The word “perfect” was crushed to dust by his contempt, instantly dismissed.
Aurelia sucked in a sharp breath.
The mighty CEO was eavesdropping on her? That was outrageous!
“All of that is in the past, I haven’t dated him.”
In the past? Hardly!
Leopold pinned her chin, his icy gaze cutting across her face like a blade, “Are you planning to rekindle old flames behind your lawful husband’s back?”
His words confirmed her suspicion. He knew who the other man was, and she had only mentioned him once. There was no way he could have guessed.
“Don’t worry, if I ever decide to rekindle old flames, it will be after a divorce. I’m a law–abiding citizen. I wouldn’t go against the marriage laws.”
Her words did little to quell Leopold’s ire.
So was Arnold her fallback plan?
Planning to seamlessly transition to him after their divorce?
“Do you believe I can smash your plans to smithereens?”
Plans?
It seemed like that a massive hailstone fall from the sky, striking her heart and almost forcing tears from her
es!
Have you already decided who the new director will be? Are you promoting from within or bringing some outsider in, without giving me a chance to compete?”
Her sudden outburst and high–pitched voice took Leopold by surprise.
The explosion of questions made his ears ring.
Already furious, he now felt like spitting blood!
Her thoughts jumped miles apart in an instant.
If you’re trying to provoke ime, not only will you not be director, I’ll fire you on the spot!”
His words hit Aurelia’s vulnerability. She turned pole, her heart twlated Into knots, “That’s personal bias!”
Who had said he was always fair and just?
The CEO’s words were deceptivel
Leopold stood over her, his eyes glinting with mockery and a cold, bitter smile on his lips, “So what If I am? What can you do?”
Aurelia deflated like a punctured balloon, collapsing onto the bed.
She couldn’t do anything. He was the emperor with the power of life and death. She was just a small fry, trampled under his feet, without any chance of fighting back.
