Avery blinked as if a thought had just struck him. “How well do you know Hyvin?” He asked in a deep voice. 

“We met a few times backstage when we were all on that reality show years ago,” Leah replied. 

Avery lifted his hand and tousled her hair. “The world of showbiz is a mixed bag. Don’t get too close to other male actors. If you want to make friends, let me vet them first, okay?” 

“Okay.” Leah pouted. 

Aurelia, standing at the doorway, took in the scene, deliberately refraining from entering so as not to interrupt them. 

“Leah, remember not to let your wounded knee get wet. It could get infected.” 

Leah scratched her head. “Aurelia, where’s William?” 

“He’s playing with the other child actors next door.” Aurelia offered with a smile. 

After Avery finished his makeup, he left for the set. 

Aurelia and Leah sat in the relaxation area. Avery came over again to remind Leah, “If your knee hurts, go rest in the trailer.” 

“Okay.” Leah nodded, “Don’t worry about me, Avery. I can take care of myself. Just focus on your acting.” 

Once he left, Leah sighed. “Avery always treats me as a little girl.‘ 

Aurelia chuckled lightly. “He doesn’t treat you as a little girl, Leah. He’s just showing his concern for you. Don’t you want him to care about you?” 

Leah’s cheeks flushed. She didn’t want Avery to take her as a little girl but wanted him to see her as a woman. 

Aurelia patted Leah’s hand. “If a man cares about you, it means you’re important to him.” 

Leah’s bright eyes sparkled like ignited stars. “Really?” 

“Avery isn’t so tender and thoughtful to everyone. He only cares for those he treasures. Look how careful he is when he’s with other female co–stars.” 

Leah flicked away a stray lock of hair. “Avery sees me like a sister.” 

Aurelia giggled. “Silly girl, you’re not his real sister. Things can change. You’re both still young, so no need to rush. Let nature take its course.” 

Her words caused ripples in Leah’s heart.

Outside the set, William was still rehearsing with Nellie. 

“What if I can’t cry later?” Nellie asked worriedly. 

“Then think of the saddest thing you can remember. You’ll be able to cry,” William advised. 

Nellie thought for a moment. “The saddest thing I can think of is when our old dog, Biscuit, died. Mom said he went to Doggy Heaven, but where is that?” 

William replied earnestly, “Doggy Heaven is in the sky. There’s Doggy Heaven, Kitty Heaven, and even Parrot Heaven. When I grow up, I’ll build a spaceship that can travel faster than light, and I’ll take you to Doggy Heaven to find Biscuit.” 

“Promised!” Nellie extended her little finger. 

William also extended his, hooking hers, “Promise, and if we break it, we’ll get punished.” 

At that moment, a tall figure approached slowly from the distance. 

William noticed him instantly, jumped off his chair in excitement, and ran towards the figure. 

“Daddy!” 

Arnold scooped his son up in his arms, planting a loving kiss on his cheek. 

“Little buddy, did you miss Daddy?” 

“Very much.” William hugged Arnold’s neck, rubbing his face against his father’s, acting all 

cute. 

Nellie also ran over. “Is this your dad?” 

“Yep.” William nodded, introducing his new friend to his father. 

Aurelia emerged from the set, having heard her son’s voice. 

“Arnold, you’re back.” Sh greeted. 

Arnold gazed deeply at her as if quenching his longing. 

“The sun is too harsh in the desert. Am I all tanned?” 

She smiled. “You’re handsome, tanned or not.”
