Melissa’s tone was as firm as a rock, and her self–confidence was unshakable. In her view, no woman could match her beauty in the world of high society. 

Elvis was temporarily blinded, unable to appreciate her. But she believed he would surely see her worth once he regained his sense. 

Leopold was speechless. She was way too incorrigible. 

Jessica’s gaze hardened, becoming stern and intimidating. “Daughters of the Stirling family can’t decide their marriages. Your three older sisters were all married off through arranged matches. The family will find you a suitable husband as well.” 

At these words, Melissa paled. “Mother, if you want me to marry for alliance, force the Cooper family to have Elvis marry me. I won’t marry anyone else.” 

“It’s not up to you. Men propose, and women accept. If Elvis does not want to marry you, you can do nothing with it. We, the Stirling family, have our dignity to uphold,” Jessica’s tone was light, but each word weighed heavily on Melissa, causing her heart to tremble with fear. 

“Mother, if you force me, I’ll kill myself.” Melissa threatened. 

Jessica was unyielding. “Then go ahead. After your death, I’ll adopt someone else to take your place. Your father has plenty of illegitimate daughters eager to be acknowledged by the family.” 

In the Stirling family, if there was no suitable legitimate daughter for marriage, an illegitimate daughter could be called back to replace her. 

Scared out of her wits, Melissa didn’t even dare to ask for her allowance, jumping up from the sofa. “I… I haven’t had breakfast yet. I’ve got to go!” 

She fled the scene with her tail between her legs. 

Jessica sighed, feeling disappointed. She had long given up hope that Melissa would amount to anything. As long as she didn’t cause trouble, that was enough.

The night before, Beverley had called Aurelia, inviting her to join.

Aurelia was skeptical about these things, but others were firm believers.

Megan caressed her flat belly. Although she hadn’t started to show yet, Megan was already wearing maternity clothes as if she was trying to tell everyone she was pregnant.

“You’re right. We should nip Aurelia’s love luck in the bud and tear it up by the roots,” she said through gritted teeth. 

Aurelia glanced at them and shifted her focus back. 

“Right now, I don’t need to boost wealth or love luck. I just want safety.”
