Chapter 606
When the midday sun reached its zenith, the group went downhill.
Megan's family doctor rushed over to her place to assess her wounds, dousing her with antiseptic and administering anti-inflammatory and pain relief treatments.
Her neck wound had worsened, but luckily, it wasn't the bite of the fabled Brown Recluse, which was the notorious harbinger of doom.
Megan was fuming, believing Aurelia's act of vengeance had led to her being bitten.
She stormed up to Aurelia, her words seething through clenched teeth. "I know it was you. You had your bodyguard trick me into taking the wrong path into that nest of vipers. You're as sly as a fox."
Aurelia felt Megan had shifted the blame to her. “Are you persecutory type? You wandered off by yourself and got bitten, and somehow it's my fault?"
“Had your bodyguard not misled me, I never would've ended up on that path,’ Megan spat, her anger ablaze.
Aurelia scoffed. "If I could buy a bodyguard's loyalty, I wouldn't stop at a petty bug bite. If I wanted to hurt you, you'd be in the ICU like me!"
Megan's face paled slightly, betraying her guilt. “What does your being in the ICU have to do with me?"
Aurelia glared coldly at her. “What goes around comes around, Megan. The universe has a way of serving justice. Maybe that bite was karma nipping at your heels. Keep up your wicked ways, and it might not just be a bug next time.
Megan frowned. "I haven't done a thing. Stop slandering me."
"Don't think I didn't see through your sleepwalking act. That curse nonsense was just an excuse. Remember, I've got enough dirt on you as a member of some shady organization. And if anything happens to me, you're going down, too; Aurelia hissed, her threat as sharp as a knife.
Megan's face turned beet red with anger. “If Leopold finds out how you're framing me, he won't let you off the hook."
"Megan, your neck’s all swollen. You better get to the hospital quickly. If that bug's venom spreads to the baby girl in your belly, that'd be a real mess."
Megan snorted internally, ‘A cracked bell never sounds well!
“It's a boy, not a girl."
William stuck his tongue out at her. "It's a girl. I bet you that. Kids can communicate with thoughts, and she told me herself."
Megan wasn't buying it. It must be that wench Aurelia cursing her carrying a daughter every day at home, and the little rascal had overheard it, taking it to heart.
"William, children shouldn't lie. If they do, they won't grow up. They might even meet an early end."
Puffing his cheeks, William retorted, "Meanie, you're cursing me! I'm gonna tell Uncle Leopold."
