Chapter 660
“Fuck off!” Aurelia rolled her eyes at Leopold, her tone dripping with irritation. “Aurelia snubbed, ‘Isn't it good enough for me to be your unreachable star? Always there within your sight but forever out of your grasp, leaving you to nothing but helpless sighs."
Leopold couldn't help but laugh, even as he felt a little helpless. "So that's how you see it, huh? Playing hard to get?"
With deliberate slowness, Aurelia responded, “Isn't that the thing these days? You gotta set high standards and be strict with ex-husbands. Don't you be thinking you can cozy back up just like that. Sure, getting divorced is a walk in the park, but getting back together is as tough as a steak - next to impossible."
Leopold ran a hand through his hair, feeling perplexed in the midst of this conversation.
"I see you're not setting the bar very high for Arnold, though."
“That's because he's not my ex-husband, and he didn't ditch me for some old flame; Aurelia shot back.
Leopold frowned. "I never had an old flame. Megan and I were never an item."
Aurelia let out a sardonic laugh, saying, "But you proposed to her in front of everyone, at a high-society gala no less. Everyone in the who's who knew about it."
With a grave tone, Leopold clarified, "That was because my father was forcing me to marry Elowen, so she offered to play the part to divert the marriage. That proposal was just an act for my father's sake.
Aurelia wasn't buying it. To her, men's words were as trustworthy as a ghost story.
She had heard his and Megan's ‘touching love story’ enough times to feel brainwashed by it.
Now, all of a sudden, it's just an act? Her mind couldn't wrap around this abrupt shift.
Even if love faded, there was no need to erase history.
What if one day he got tired of her, would he claim their marriage was just a mix-up, a seed sown in the wrong place?
"I just realized how tragic Megan is; commented Aurelia with a heavy sigh. "She clawed her way to being your wife, only to end up discarded by you."
A cold, sharp light flickered in Leopold's eyes.
Usurping someone else's place won't end well.
