Aurelia took a playful sip of her cocktail, her eyes glinting with a mischievous chill.
She knew the game Megan and Tanya were playing, which was a mutual exploitation.
Tanya saw Megan as a pawn, positioned by Leopold's side for some grander scheme, and had plans for her child.
As for Megan, she was looking to leverage the power of the AK Group to cement her place as the darling Mrs. Stirling, to secure her son’s right of succession to the Stirling family, and to fulfill her ambitions.
But they had miscalculated and picked the wrong adversary. Overstepping with her and Leopold was a fatal error. She would undoubtedly help Leopold crush them.
Having finished her drink, she excused herself to the lady's room. On her way back to the group, a forceful hand suddenly reached out, pulling her into the lounge room.
Seeing Leopold's handsome, stern face, she gasped. "Mr. Leopold, this is hardly appropriate. People might see us and think I'm keeping a toy boy."
Leopold, his mood already sour, flicked her forehead with a snap.
"If I were lying in a hospital on the brink of death, would you still be so carefree?"
Her head bobbed affirmatively. "Why should I let you bring me down? Crying my eyes out every day won't solve anything."
A flicker of hurt crossed Leopold's eyes. "You heartless woman."
"Tsk!" Aurelia scoffed. "Remember when I was hanging by a thread in the ICU? You were living it up and rekindling old flames with Megan, probably wishing I'd kick the bucket sooner rather than later."
That memory was like a thorn in her, which she could never forget. Every touch was a reminder of her anguish, her anger, and her resentment toward him.
Leopold swallowed his bitterness, unable to voice his pain.
"So you like dredging up the past?"
