Leopold picked up a sterling silver crucifix and drew it across the back of his hand. The skin flared red almost immediately, and it was clear he had a silver allergy.
It all pointed to him being the elusive Geoffrey, but Aurelia couldn't shake off her disbelief. Everything was falling into place too easily, too neatly, and it set her nerves on edge.
"Could it be that Geoffrey isn't actually Skyler's twin brother? Maybe Skyler has never seen Geoffrey's true face. He's only heard Geoffrey claiming they were identical. That's why he believed it," she mused, her voice laced with skepticism.
"But don't you think it's all a bit too convenient? Would Geoffrey really be caught this easily?"
A flash of steely determination glinted in Leopold's eyes, "Once he wakes up, we'll get the truth out of him."
The man wasn't dead, just sedated with a tranquilizer dart. Before long, he stirred to consciousness, finding himself captive and incensed.
"You're all despicable, underhanded snakes," he spat venomously.
"And who might you be?" Aurelia inquired, her gaze unwavering.
"I won't give you the satisfaction of knowing. You won't get a single word out of me," he grunted defiantly.
Leopold had methods to loosen tongues. At his command, Kevin pried open the man's mouth and slipped in a highly toxic pill, a poison that melted instantly upon contact, offering no chance to spit it out.
Soon enough, the poison took hold.
The man's agonized screams filled the room, "I can't bear it. I'm dying. Give me the antidote, and I'll tell you everything."
Kevin administered the antidote, and the man's writhing subsided.
"I know you're after Geoffrey, but I'm not him. There is no Geoffrey in this world. He's just a split personality of Skyler's. Triggered by hypnosis or hallucinogens, Geoffrey comes out to play. Skyler has no clue about his split personality, so I've been masquerading as Geoffrey, manipulating him to do my bidding. I was the one who sent the hit on Leopold in the Amazon, and I was the one who poisoned him this time. Now that I've been caught due to a careless slip, I'll just have to face the music. But don't think for a second you can take down the AK Group. Even without me, the machine keeps running."
Aurelia and Leopold exchanged a look, both their expressions hard and calculating.
