Leopold mustered a wry smile. "You can take revenge on me for anything, but leaving me is off the table."
With a sigh that echoed in her mind, Aurelia reflected on her current allure. Young and beautiful, she was like a hot cake with people vying for her attention. But she knew Leopold would likely want to kick her to the curb once she got old and withered. He wouldn’t want to take a second look at her then.
"Let me tell you. I'm no damsel in distress who’s easy to push around. If you stop me from leaving now, wait until you grow tired of me and start eyeing a harem. Don't ever blame me for playing hardball then. Better to be a tough cookie than a pushover."
Leopold pinched her smooth cheek, caught between laughter and tears. "It seems you still don't know me well enough to have such worries."
Aurelia rolled her eyes internally. The guy was all hormones, and they had spent most of their time together having sex. How could she get to know him well?
"How about we try something different? Let's embark on a purely platonic relationship, free from carnal desires, to understand each other."
His deep eyes shimmered mysteriously in the lamplight, looking profound and enigmatic.
"I can agree to that before we remarry," he said, hoping it would foster a deeper understanding and trust between them.
The kids were back.
It was their first day of school, and Jessica had instructed the chef to prepare a celebratory meal.
Used to the daily company of her grandsons, she felt bored with them away for the day.
"Sweethearts, did you enjoy school today?" she asked.
"Yeah, it was fun." Kane nodded.
"I loved it, too! Kane and I love school," William chimed in with a grin. "We even joined a club."
"That's wonderful," Jessica said, gently ruffling their hair before turning to Skyler. "And how did you find your first day of teaching?"
"Good," Skyler replied with a playful grimace. "Just the meeting was a bit of a snooze fest."
"You'll get used to it. You're a child at home, but out there, be an adult," she said kindly.
