The CEO’S Unplanned Heir novel (Aurelia and Leopold) novel Chapter 876

A burst of frustration shot through Leopold's furrowed brow. "Must you be the talk breaker?"

Aurelia gazed at him with unflinching seriousness. "I'm just spouting the harsh truth. After being struck by lightning, figuratively speaking, a woman like me can't harbor any fanciful dreams about love, except caution and reality. If I were to ever consider remarriage, I'd be extremely careful. I'm not about to get hurt by the same guy twice."

Leopold feigned a heart attack. "I'm taller than you. If lightning were to strike, it'd hit me first. How could it possibly get you?"

She stuck out her tongue at him playfully. "Right, it should strike you, the jerk who loves me and hurts me."

Aurelia was determined to make him taste the scorching ordeal of winning back the wife he had cast aside, to see if he would dare discard her so casually again!

Leopold pressed his hand to his temple. The resentment emanating from her felt like swords piercing straight into his heart.

His fingers tightened around his glass. With a tilt of his head, he downed the liquor in one gulp.

"Aurelia..." He started to speak, then swallowed his words, replacing his look of resignation with one of teasing. "The deeper the love, the sharper the hate. Your bitterness just shows you still care a bit."

Her accusation struck a chord, and her thick lashes instinctively drooped, shielding the love in her glittering eyes.

"I do care, you know. Do you think I have no pride? Being kicked to the curb by you made me the laughingstock of the entire social elite. Those ladies gossip about me at their bridge games. For a time, my grandmother was too ashamed to join her bridge club, fearing their chatter about me. If I made it easy and remarried you, everyone would think I'm desperate."

Leopold let out a heavy sigh and pulled her close. "If I could, I wouldn't have let you go for a minute. I've only just found you again, only just got you back. How could I bear to let you go?"

Aurelia seemed to be caught in a tumultuous storm suddenly with a surge of emotions as overwhelming as a stampede.

Was he plotting something again, like he did three years ago? And that's why he was temporarily letting her go?

Perhaps in his heart, she wasn't that important, so she always ended up the sacrificial pawn, the one to be abandoned.
