Kevin glanced at the child in the arms of the man dressed in black.
"True or not, Mr. Leopold will get to the bottom of it, so you'd better not be lying," he said before leaving with his entourage.
The nanny was shaking like a leaf, clutching at Megan's arm. "What do we do now? They have taken the child away. How on earth are we going to explain this to our boss?"
Megan rolled her eyes in irritation. "What can we do? It's not like we could have stopped them. Call Jewel and tell her to get her butt back here, pronto."
Even if Jewel had been there, she wouldn't stand a chance against Kevin and his crew. Kevin was a force to be reckoned with, or he wouldn't have made himself Mr. Leopold's right-hand man.
When Jewel received the call, she rushed over immediately.
"Why would Mr. Leopold suddenly send someone to take the child away?"
"How should I know?" Megan shrugged, her face a mask of indifference. After all, it wasn't her kid.
She had cleared the air with Kevin. Even when the paternity test results came out, Leopold wouldn't have a bone to pick with her.
Jewel felt like she was at death's door. She had only been gone for a short while, and already a nightmare had unfolded. How would she face the big boss?
"Why didn't you stop them? Are you out of your mind?" Jewel snapped.
Megan replied coolly, "How could I stop them? I was unarmed, and we're talking about Kevin here, Leopold's top enforcer. No one can stand in his way. Besides, Leopold thinks the child is his, so he has taken him. The father wanting to see his child is only reasonable. The police wouldn't even get involved."
Jewel said, "They must have taken the child to the Stirling family. You need to follow them and make sure the child is safe. If something happens to him, we're both dead meat."
Megan scoffed. "You want me to head over to the Stirling family in the middle of the night? Are you kidding me? They won't even let me through the gate."
"You're the child's mother. Why wouldn't they let you in?"
"Because they're the Stirling family. In Elysium, no one dares to cross the Stirling family," Megan retorted and then changed the subject. "Where did that child come from, anyway? What about his real parents?"
Jewel answered dismissively, "I don't know the details. The higher-ups have arranged the child."
Megan snorted. "So, you had a replacement ready before I gave birth, right? You had this all planned out in case you needed to swap my baby."
