"I don't know." Aurelia shook her head, considering the possibility that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
Skyler grimaced. "Maybe we just shouldn't give the child back to Geoffrey. I don't fancy the Heninger family churning out another little terror."
Aurelia sighed softly. "Let's focus on rescuing Ramona's parents first. They're innocents caught in the middle of all this."
Meanwhile, in the elite dormitory of Pinnacle Ivy League School, Ramona received a text from her kidnappers.
[Be by the east wall of the school at 7 PM tomorrow. A drone will drop something off for you.]
[More poison, huh?] asked Ramona.
[It's candy. Try to get Kane to eat it.]
[You mean poisoned candy. Stop using this trick. Kane won't touch a thing at school now.]
[Want to save your parents or not?]
[Do you want to save your boss' child?] Ramona retorted, using a line Aurelia had taught her for bargaining.
The kidnapper went silent. After a long pause, they replied, [How do you know about the child?]
[William told me. He shares everything with me.]
[You know where the child is?]
[Release my parents, and I'll help you find the child.]
Silence again, the kidnapper replied, [Friday night, 10 PM, Warehouse A, Coral Reef Ports. We'll do the exchange there. Have Aurelia bring the child.]
Ramona immediately relayed the message to Aurelia.
After dinner, Aurelia dropped Skyler off at home before returning to the Stirling Mansion with Kane.
She called Leopold into the study.
"No worries. I've got everything under control."
…
The night at Twilight Club grew darker and more profound.
After her bath, Aurelia lay in bed, restless at the thought of Friday's operation.
Leopold wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder. "Take a day off tomorrow. Let's have a seaside date. What do you say?"
Aurelia admired his composure. Even with the world's weight on his shoulders, he remained unmoved, truly a man who could change the course of events.
"Aren't you worried about what's going to happen on Friday at all?"
His lips curved into a naughty smile. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Nothing is as important as a date with my wife."
Aurelia sighed. She didn't share his steel nerves and couldn't help feeling anxious.
