Chapter 391 Truly Fortunate

Lysander was, admittedly, somewhat at a loss for words.

That was the truth, indeed.

She had only been in Stounia for a few days when she had another “chance encounter” with him.

Lysander asked. “That day at the pharmacy… Was it truly a coincidence that we met?”

This time, it was Josiah’s turn to be helpless. “Even if I were incredibly skilled, it’s not like I can predict the future. There’s no way I could have known when you were planning to go to that pharmacy.”

“That’s true, indeed.”

Josiah said, “Could this be what they call… fate?”

“Stounia was the first country to experience the Industrial Revolution, a land deeply rooted in materialism. But they also believed in God. Then even the heavens can’t enforce laws across borders.. right?”

Josiah couldn’t help but chuckle. “Heaven might not be able to help, but perhaps the god of love could.”

As they were speaking, the door to the ICU was pushed open.

“Dr. Thorne.”

Lysander walked over, asking, “Dr. Riley, how is my mom’s condition?”

Riley appeared quite relaxed. “Don’t worry. Rest is all that’s needed now. Perhaps you possess some sort of miraculous power. Her vital signs have basically returned to normal. This afternoon, I’ll have the nurse move your mom to a regular ward. You’ll be able to see her and talk to her then.”

Lysander sincerely expressed her gratitude. “Thank you. I appreciate your help.”

“It’s all part of the job. Nothing bothersome,” Riley jested with a cheerful smile. “But your husband… He was here with you all night. However long you slept, that’s how long he served as a human couch. He didn’t move a muscle, afraid he might wake you. Just watching him gave me sympathy aches.”

The smile on Lysander’s face subtly froze.

Josiah said, “Family members should naty

support each other. When my grandma was hospitalized, Lysander was completely dedicated and did her best. It’s all about reciprocity.”

Riley sincerely exclaimed, “Dr. Thorne is truly fortunate to have found such a wonderful husband.”

“I’m truly fortunate to have married Lysander.”

“Well, well… How sweet.” Riley chuckled lightly. “All right. Enough with the lovey–dovey stuff. I’ve got work to do. If there’s anything else, come find me later.”

Lysander understood clearly. “So, you’re saying you can’t keep up with her pace of making new close friends while you’re still trying to deal with the old ones?”

Josiah let out a deep sigh. “Perhaps she was born to love a life where she’s the center of attention, like the moon surrounded by stars. She wouldn’t give up an entire forest for a single tree.”

“So, you’re just… not going to care? You’re giving up? Letting her do as she pleases? Not uttering a word even when you’re being stepped all over?”

Josiah immediately retorted, “I was just a good friend back then. How was I supposed to speak up?”

Lysander nodded, “You’re right. You’re just one fish in her pond, not yet a permanent fixture, without any official status.”

“You’ve reminded me,” Josiah said, retrieving her phone the inner pocket of his suit with a frown. “Adrian has been calling you quite a lot.”

Lysander watched him, waiting for his next words.

It seemed as though Josiah had made up his mind not to mention that person again. “Let’s go. We should check on Mrs. Thorne first. Do we need to do anything special to transfer her to a general ward? You can stay with her. I’ll handle the procedures.”

Lysander took a deep breath, still gazing at him. 

Lysander gave up. “There’s no need for procedures. The nurse will handle everything.”

Lysander was startled, too, and hurriedly took two quick steps to catch up. At the same time, she steadied. Molly, whose body was on the verge of collapsing.

It seemed as though Molly hadn’t heard. Her bony hand gripped Lysander’s tightly, the grip growing stronger, and her eyes filled with pleading.

The young nurse was at a loss and she hesitated before saying, “Dr. Thorne…
