Chapter 456 Resisting Your Lead And Move Backwards

“Mr. Guerra, you’re too kind” Whitney immediately turned her attention away from Lysanne. Her face lit up with a smile as she engaged in a discussion about the project with him.

Daphnie drew in a sharp breath as uncertainty washing over her. She wasn’t sure if Josiah had heard the harsh words she’d spoken behind his back. With a tinge of guilt, she subtly moved a few steps behind Lysander.

Josiah had deliberately donned a smoky grey suit for the occasion. The tailored fit accentuated his broad shoulders and long legs, making his impressive physique even more striking. He naturally exuded an aura of authority the moment he stood there.

Tiffany tilted her face up and gave him a smile. “Jose!”

“Mm.” Josiah responded gently. His gaze naturally swept over Daphne and Lysander who were standing before him. Then he turned to Whitney and asked, “Ms. Spears, are you also acquainted with Ms. Everhart?”

Upon seeing how swiftly the topic had changed, Whitney was only briefly taken aback before she continued, “I only met Ms. Everhart recently. I heard that Everhart Corporation is currently seeking financing, so we got together to discuss it. Oh, and her friend, Dr. Thorne, is quite the professional. She has just cleared up quite a few things for me.”

Josiah turned his head, raising an eyebrow. “Oh?”

Whitney chuckled, “However, having a conversation with Dr. Thorne is quite straightforward. We say what we mean, and everyone is rather direct. It makes communication much more efficient.”

Holding his wine glass, Josiah clinked it against hers. “You all are experts in your respective fields, but she isn’t as adept at socializing as you. She’s a bit stubborn and not really good at small talk. Let me raise a toast to you on her behalf if she has offended you in any way.”

Having said that, he tilted his head back, draining every last drop of red wine from his glass.

Whitney’s previously wavering heart instantly settled down after hearing the tone of the conversation. “Not at all, Dr. Thorne is a professional. She has a promisingly bright future based on her skills alone, so there’s no need for these nebulous social courtesies. Rest assured, Mr. Guerra, my conversation with Dr. Thorne went very well.”

“That’s good then.”

Whitney asked a probing question, “It seems like Dr. Thorne and Ms. Everhart are quite close. Is it Ms. Everhart who invites her over today?”

Josiah asked, “Is it about the fundraising matter?”

“Yeah, about the current situation of the Everhart family…” Whitney chuckled lightly, “Actually, I’m a bit. puzzled too. If they were such good friends, why did Mr. Guerra suddenly abandon Everhart Corporation and choose to collaborate with Riveron Corporation instead?”

Then Josiah casually brought up, “I happen to know a bit about Everhart Corporation. Just to mention, Mr. Everhart hasn’t made an appearance domestically for quite some time.” 

“I see…” Whitney had indeed became interested. She glanced at Daphne and said, “No wonder it was always Ms. Everhart who came to discuss financing matters with me before. I wonder when Mr. Everhart will return.”

Hearing that, Daphne was unable to respond.

An unsettling premonition surged within Lysander, yet it was inappropriate to comment excessively on Everhart Corporation’s affairs. All she could hope for was that Josiah wouldn’t cross the line.

Josiah was unfazed by the gazes that fell upon him. He casually gestured for a waiter, and replaced the

drink in his hand with a new one.

“I heard that Mr. Everhart had to go abroad to take care of his ailing mother, leaving him no time to deal with matters here. As a result, business affairs have to be handed over to Ms. Everhart. However, it seems Ms. Everhart doesn’t have a strong grasp on these matters either. Not long ago, she was pursued by the bank for a loan repayment. Personally, I’m not very optimistic about the future of Everhart Corporation.”

Whitney was tasked with making profitable investments for the company, so the term “pursued” particularly struck a chord with her. Her expression changed instantly. “In Mr. Guerra’s perspective, how should Everhart Corporation move forward from now on?”

Josiah was straightforward, not mincing his words as he said, “I’m not sure about that. All I know is that, barring a miracle, investing in this corporation would be like throwing money into a black hole.”

The more they spoke, the more serious it sounded.

After much difficulty, Daphne finally found a way to save Everhart Corporation, only to have it effortlessly snuffed out by Josiah. She was so frustrated that she could have rushed up and given him a piece of her mind right then and there. “Josiah, are you doing this out of spite?” she asked.

Seeing that, Lysander gently took hold of her, his voice hushed to a soothing whisper, “Daphne! Calm down!”

Josiah, however, didn’t care in the slightest about what he had just said. 

Feeling a bit embarrassed. Tiffany said, “I’ll learn gradually.”

Josiah frowned. “Don’t believe everything you hear. You’re not a child anymore, so you should have some discernment.”

Upon hearing Josiah’s words, her expression subtly shifted. Her hands, hanging by her side, instinctively clenthed in fear. She was afraid that Tiffany would yeal that she had been coerced into proposing a toast.

“Some people simply don’t appreciate that. In fact, being gentle with her is utterly useless. She only responds when things get a bit tough. She’s stubborn as a mule, resisting your lead and even move backwards.
