The Charming Ex–Wife
Chapter 540 Seeing A Bandit
Lysander hadn’t expected her father, who had just been so vehement in the café, to so quickly start persuading her.
“Dad…”
“You will always be my daughter, but instead of keeping you trapped here, I’d rather see you live a better life. You’ve suffered too many injustices in the past. I gave them the three conditions to prevent them from looking down on you. That adopted girl who used to bully you is not a good person, but they’ve lived with her for so many years that it’s inevitable they might be soft–hearted toward her. You’ve already been at a disadvantage once because of her, and I fear their indecisiveness might cause you to suffer again.”
Maverick was a rough and simple man who didn’t put much thought into his own house–buying process. However, when it came to his daughter, his considerations ran deep, fearing even the slightest oversight.
In the face of such profound paternal love, all words became feeble and insignificant.
Lysander didn’t want to dash his hopes. So, choking back tears, she agreed.
When Maverick and Lysander returned to the ward, Michelle and Laura had already been anxiously waiting for them for quite some time.
Laura was standing by the window, her gaze fixed on the view below. She was so engrossed that she didn’t even hear the door opening behind her.
Michelle’s eyes lit up as she lay in her bed. “Mom, Dad and Lysander are back!”
As Michelle spoke, she instinctively tried to rise to greet them, nearly forgetting that she was still nursing her injuries.
Lysander quickly rushed over and gently pushed Michelle back down. “You need to lie down now!”
Michelle noticed their reddened eyes, her worry evident as she asked, “Lysander, why have you been crying? Did those two people bully you? Also, Dad…”
With a puzzled look, she gazed at Maverick, unsure whether to voice her lingering question.
Maverick had never shed a tear at home before. At that moment, stubbornly keeping his pride, he said, “I’m fine. Let’s not bring up those two, especially that b*stard who hurt your sister. I’ll hit him every time I see him!”
Lysander knew that Maverick was afraid Michelle might notice he had been crying. So, she covered for him, saying, “It’s nothing. The wind outside is strong. It made his eyes sting.”

Michelle was uncertain, but due to her trust in her sister, she didn’t ask too many questions.
After observing the father and daughter, Laura had a rough idea of what was going on, but she chose not to expose them. Instead, she asked, “How did the discussion go?”
“It went all right.” Maverick didn’t want to worry them, but he felt he should still share something. “Their attitude was decent. They seem genuinely fond of Lysa, and they appear to be quite generous.
Laura was aware of the truth. Once Lysander sat down by the bed, she relayed the course of events to

Michelle’s mouth fell open in surprise. Regaining her composure, she declared resolutely, “I don’t care! As far back as I can remember, you’ve always been my sister. And no matter where you go in the future, you’ll always be my sister!”
Lysander chuckled lightly. “Of course, I’m your sister. During my university days, I was always awarded scholarship. If you dare to fail a subject, just see how I’ll deal with you.”
Michelle shrank her neck. “Don’t, Lysander… I’m still injured…”
“Did you really fail a subject?“.
“No! No! It’s just that I’ve been tied up with so many things lately. I had to beg my counselor for a long leave. I’m just scared about failing…”
With a light chuckle, Lysander broke into laughter, gently stroking Michelle’s hair. “Freshman and sophomore years are all about basic courses, nothing too hard. Just put in some effort, and maybe find a classmate who’s doing well to help you study,” she advised.
“I see… Okay!”
The matter that had been a source of worry for so long was finally brought to light.
Laura dabbed at the corner of her eyes and said, “You two sisters, when you get together, the chatter never ends. How could you two ever lose each other?”
Lysander let out a relieved laugh. “Yes, Mom. The same goes for my relationship with you and Dad. We will never part ways.”
Upon hearing these words, Maverick dropped his facade as the head of the family. He moved forward, gathering his wife and two daughters in his arms. With deep emotion, he declared, “We are forever a family.”
As they were in the midst of their conversation, the door to the

Assuming that it was either Josiah or Howard who had followed him, Maverick quickly rose to his feet and looked over. However, his expression subtly shifted.
“Oh, it’s you guys.” Maverick then said to Laura with a grim expression, “Camila is here.”
Zachary wasn’t mentioned at all.
The incident where the contract was manipulated the previous time was still fresh in Maverick’s memory.
Zachary greeted them somewhat awkwardly by saying, “Hello, Mr. Thorne. Hello, Mrs. Thorne. My mom was worried about Mich, so we came to check on her.”
Maverick responded nonchalantly, his voice as low as a hum from the tip of his nose.
Camila, however, didn’t pay attention to these subtle details. She came directly to the bedside, carrying a fruit basket and fresh flowers for the patient. She said to Laura, “I heard that Michelle was hospitalized. I’ve wanted to visit her for a while but got held up by other matters. It’s only with great difficulty that I manage to bring Zachary along.”
Laura gave Camila a dry laugh, but she refused to engage with Zachary. “Camila, please have a seat.”

Update pls~...
Why no update ???...
Chapters 692 693 ans 694 are impossible to read. Not sure if there was an issue with translation.but the words do not make sense..impossible to follow story line...
I cant get over the fact that the writer is trying to show as if the male lead has committed a grave sin. First he didnt know she was pregnant because she never told him. Second right from the start she never communicated anything. She was unbothered even during her marriage. I am not saying the male lead is great but atleast he seems like a human with emotions unlike her. And there is no context for why she is so emotionless....
The female lead is not charming but an unbothered b word, there is a very big difference. There is no point of extending this story at all because even if you write 1000+ chapters at 1001 the male lead would still be doing everything for her and she wouldnt bat an eye even if someone killed him. I mean honestly either the start should have been written better where we do understand that she was deeply affected because of her divorce or just STOPPPPP. Even for fiction it is annoying....
