Just like finance, medicine also required a solid foundation in the sciences. Lysander applied meticulous attention to detail from her work, wishing she could see right through the paper. 

Yet, the outcome was still barely satisfactory. She had no idea what the data should look like under normal circumstances. 

“How can we tell if there’s anything unusual?” 

Josiah nodded. “The marketing department has always been a major expense for the company, and high travel costs are to be expected. However, considering the size and scale of Thorne Constructions and Energies, these travel expenses have exceeded the normal range by more than tenfold.” 

Lysander, filled with puzzlement, asked, “You even know about such trivial matters as travel expenses?” 

“Was I born already seated in the CEO’s chair?” 

Of course, he also started from scratch. 

He was an experienced individual, and teaching her was far more challenging than simply guiding her along the path, but he didn’t seem the least bit impatient. 

Lysander inquired, “So, the issue with the finances might not be as concealed as I originally thought?”

“The marketing manager was a clever individual, probably fearing you’d catch on. Hence, he carried out all his activities in a very secretive manner. If he had only focused on one thing, he might not have been discovered.” 

Driven by insatiable greed, Lennox acted in such a manner primarily to conceal his secret. However, unexpectedly, his clever scheme backfired spectacularly. 

Lysander pondered over the words spoken by Josiah, while pulling up the recent price fluctuation charts of a few products to make a fresh comparison. As she studied the charts, her expression turned somber. 

Several lines were circled on the paper version of the report, all indicating problematic sections. 

“I’ve only been able to find this much. I just hope no innocent person gets wronged,” Lysander said, after thoroughly checking everything. Seeing no omissions, she handed out the paper. 

Josiah accepted it, his expression filled with contentment. “You truly are a promising seedling worth nurturing. Although you were late to catch on, everything turned out right. Moreover, look at this,” he pointed out, “The number of orders that Lennox brought in is this much, but the revenue it generated for the company is only this much. Something’s not right here.” 

Lysander asked, “What could possibly be the reason?” 

“There are two possibilities,” Josiah stated. “Firstly, some of the orders may have been delivered, but the final payments were not received, resulting in bad debts. Alternatively, he could have collaborated with the second party, skimming off a profit of about thirty to forty percent. Given the volume of these orders, it’s estimated that he could have pocketed around two million in unrecorded funds.”

As she spoke, she intended to flip through the list of names, ready to start drafting dismissal letters. 

“Are you planning to make a strong start in your new position? Using him as an example to teach others a lesson?” 

“Can’t I do that?” 

“Sure, it’s possible,” Josiah interjected promptly, “but I would advise against doing it for now. Of course, it’s just a suggestion.” 

If Lysander insisted on making an example of him, Josiah wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. 

“Two million is no small amount. It could even serve as start–up capital for some minor projects,” Lysander said in a quiet voice. “Isn’t that enough reason to terminate his employment?” 

Josiah explained, “Mr. Escobar has been with the company for about as long as Mr. Thorne. The resources and connections he holds could sustain more than half of the department. If you fire him now, the company’s operations would come to an immediate halt. This is why he dares to act so brazenly. As for the allegations of corruption, they’re merely conjectures at this point. No one can produce evidence to prove his dereliction of duty. Without evidence, we won’t have a leg to stand on anywhere.” 

“So what should I do? Just let him be?” 

No wonder Josiah, despite knowing there were issues with Lennox, turned a blind eye for so long. 

Lysander felt a bit helpless. “If he doesn’t even care about you, he would only look down on me even 

more.” 

Moreover, the most recent transaction had just occurred in the past few days. It was clear that Lennox was doing it on purpose. 

Lysander hadn’t even made her official debut at the company yet, but Lennox was already showing who was the boss. 

Lysander took a sip of the honey lemon tea, yet her heart remained heavy. 

Josiah gave her a suggestion that seemed feasible. 

“If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t hastily remove the veterans from these companies, especially given the current instability of our foundation. It’s better to keep them around for now and gradually promote new blood to maintain a balance. 

Though he was young, he skillfully maintained a balance in the company, almost never encountering any mishaps. 

Lysander admitted that it was a good idea, but new problems quickly followed.

Lysander was absolutely certain that nobody in the company recognized her, even though she had already spoken with some of them over the phone. 

Josiah extended his hand toward her. “Show me the list of names you’ve obtained from the HR department. After I left, some people who used to follow me at Guerra Group also left.” 

He wouldn’t know the specific situation within the company until he had a look for himself.
