“The door isn’t locked,” he called out glumly. He figured that Lysander wouldn’t return so quickly. 

The door creaked open slowly.

Josiah had initially assumed that the visitor would be the village chief. However, when he looked up, he found himself face–to–face with a young man wearing glasses. The stranger was probably in his early twenties, exuding a scholarly, and didn’t seem to be a local villager. 

But aren’t all the support staff at the health center supposed to be women? Why is there a man? 

Josiah couldn’t help but furrow his brows, his hostile gaze critically sweeping over the other party. A natural aura of authority radiated from him. 

The young man was taken aback upon seeing Josiah and asked uneasily, “Isn’t Dr. Thorne supposed to be here?” 

With a straightforward concise manner, Josiah answered, “She has gone to work at the health center. And 

you are…?” 

“I see,” said the young man, regretfully adjusting the glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. Then, with a hint of nervousness, he began to introduce himself. 

“I came here to help teach, but I’m just an arts student, so I can’t handle physics problems and was wondering if Dr. Thorne might be able to help… It’s okay. I’ll go to the health center and ask her instead.” 

The village was teeming with children, many of whom were of schooling age. However, there was only one school in the area, where children of different grades attended classes together. On this occasion, all the children who had questions that the visiting teacher couldn’t answer had followed the young man. There were both boys and girls. 

Josiah glanced at the children standing outside the door, suddenly feeling awkward about continuing to sit by the bed. He took a moment to compose himself, then, supporting himself on the table, he moved to the door and said, “She’s busy with things at the health center. Let me take a look.” 

The young man still had some doubts. “Um… are you also a science–major?” 

“Indeed.” Josiah nodded in agreement. 

The young man handed the book he was holding to Josiah. “If it’s not too much trouble, could you take a look at this? I didn’t really want to bother Dr. Thorne as she’s just so busy, but the children’s studies can’t be neglected.” 

While speaking, he adjusted his glasses sheepishly, then gestured to the accompanying children not to be shy and to approach him if they had any questions. 

The room was tiny, simply unable to accommodate so many people. Thus, Josiah decided to move a chair out into the courtyard, where he earnestly began to help the children with their homework. 

The most challenging aspect for the children was the final major question in the physics workbook. 

Taking a closer look at what was handed to him, Josiah picked up a stone and began to work something out on the sandy ground. He quickly spoke in a deep voice. “This problem is a bit advanced, but it doesn’t

As he spoke, he simultaneously drew diagrams on the ground. His movements were incredibly fluid, giving no indication that he had been away from the academic environment for years. 

The young man, although excelling in arts, had nothing short of disastrous results in science subjects. At that moment, listening to Josiah’s clear and concise explanations along with the children, he couldn’t help but wish Josiah could teach him as well. That way, he would be able to explain to the students who couldn’t make it when needed. 

Perhaps influenced by the slow pace of life in the countryside, Josiah’s usual brisk and efficient work attitude took a turn. He took a more leisurely approach when solving problems, paying meticulous attention to every detail. After explaining, he never failed to ask again, “Is there anything you don’t understand?” 

The children had already heard from their families about Josiah and knew that he was a prominent businessman from the city who had generously donated many things to their village. Seeing him graciously stooping to their level to teach them had already made them quite nervous. So, when the time came, their nods were noticeably uncoordinated. 

Some people didn’t understand, but seeing that their classmates had grasped it, they had no choice but to play along.. 

Upon noticing the situation, Josiah didn’t overlook this minor detail. He contemplated and said, “It’s okay, let me explain it again.” 

Josiah lectured outside the dormitory for a long time, not finishing until he had filled the sandy ground by the door with mathematical and chemical formulas to answer all the questions. 

The children diligently took notes alongside the young man who had come to provide voluntary teaching. Before leaving, they remembered to express their gratitude to him earnestly. Some even went as far as to bow deeply in appreciation. 

At this moment, Josiah’s emotions were strikingly similar to how Lysander felt when she first arrived here. 

A vivacious and quick–witted child noticed that Josiah wasn’t as aloof and unapproachable as he seemed. Gathering his courage, he asked, “Mister, can we come to you with questions we can’t solve in the future?” 

Before Josiah could respond, the bespectacled young man spoke up first. “If you have any questions, you better ask them quickly. Mr. Guerra is a busy man and won’t be staying here for long.” 

Recalling the excitement in the village yesterday, he had already confirmed Josiah’s identity, so he feared. that the children’s boldness might have offended Josiah.
