Deanna stormed back home, peeved to the core. Cordelia and Ronan seemed to be getting along like a house on fire.
As she was tidying up, she realized that her assistant had once again forgotten to put her compact powder in her makeup bag. Enraged, Deanna gave her assistant a piece of her mind over the phone and ended the call with, "Don't bother showing up for work tomorrow!"
When Leila inquired, Deanna snapped back, "Don't even get me started. They're as thick as thieves."
"Well, keep an eye on Cordelia. Maybe you can spot a chink in her armor."
"First things first, I need a new assistant. I've got an early call time for a new gig tomorrow. Where on earth am I gonna find one?" Deanna fumed.
Just as Deanna was feeling out of her depth, a light bulb went off in her head. That sales assistant. She was meticulous and a fan of Deanna's.
Deanna quickly dug out her business card and gave her a call. Samantha happily agreed to drop by Deanna's place.
"I've gone through more than a dozen assistants in the last year. Not one of them made the cut. How about a month-long trial period, room and board included, for 10 grand?" Deanna crossed her arms, eyeing Samantha.
"Sounds good," Samantha agreed, taken aback at how quickly her wish came true. The pay was a major step up, plus she got room and board. The icing on the cake was that Deanna was Cordelia's rival. So, taking down Cordelia would be a walk in the park with Deanna's fame backing her up. Samantha wouldn't even have to lift a finger. The thought of it had Samantha tightening her grip.
She was in Millstone, on the brink of turning over a new leaf.
