"But if I sign and he doesn't, we won't be able to divorce," Cordelia said, staring at Samantha.
"Don't worry. We still have plenty of tricks up our sleeve," Samantha grinned, "You gonna sign it?"
"I will." Cordelia wanted nothing more than to get back home as soon as possible. Besides, she figured that even if she signed, Ronan definitely wouldn't.
But if he did sign, how would she handle her own feelings? That would just mean their love story had run its course.
Cordelia quickly scribbled her name on the divorce papers and bolted from the warehouse. She figured as long as there was life, there was hope. And she didn't want Samantha to dictate her timeline, because the longer it took, the worse for Samantha.
She felt a pang of sympathy for Samantha. She knew Samantha would definitely use this divorce agreement for something, so she wanted to go back first to gain the upper hand and convince Ronan not to call the police.
But when she arrived at the Evans family home, Deanna was sitting in her living room. In her hands, the divorce papers Cordelia had signed.
"Ronan, your wife wants to divorce you. These papers were found by Samantha when she visited her aunt tonight. Cordelia signed them herself. Maybe she thought it would be too hard to tell you in person, so she wrote it down. But I don't know when she was planning to tell you," Deanna lied through her teeth.
Lately, she had been keeping an eye on Ronan's house. She knew Jamie visited the Evans family last night. She wanted Ronan to know that, Jamie came to the Evans family, Cordelia was swayed, and wanted a divorce.
Turned out Deanna was using the signed divorce papers to get to Ronan, to ruin their relationship. Maybe in a fit of rage, Ronan would sign without hearing Cordelia out. Then, Cordelia would be left defenseless.
And tonight, Samantha wasn't visiting her mom.
However, when she thought of her uncle's condition, her heart softened. Perhaps they knew that Cordelia would give in, so they were sure she wouldn't spill the beans about the kidnapping.
Cordelia's kindness was being exploited.
If she told Ronan that Samantha had kidnapped her, Ronan would be furious and call the cops. Samantha could be sentenced to years in prison for kidnapping. Her uncle only had her as a daughter, relying on her for care.
"Did you write this?" Ronan asked, holding the paper. His face was full of cold indifference.
"Yes." Cordelia was scrambling for a response.
