The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 239

Ava caught Cordelia's lagged response as she kept staring at the tag on the shirt. Ava felt a touch of irritation, especially after Ronan's recent actions as a driver.

"Aren't you going to buy some for Jamie?" Ava asked. "It's holiday season, you know."

"Huh?" Cordelia snapped back to reality.

"You're not going to buy your man some shirts? You're living together." Ava reminded her.

Hearing the term, "your man," Cordelia's mind went straight to Ronan. But Ava was right. Jamie was taking care of her, housing her, and she hadn't really thanked him for it. Since Ava had mentioned it, she thought, why not buy him a couple?

"What size does Jamie wear?" Cordelia asked instinctively.

"You're carrying his children, and you don't know his size?" Ava seemed surprised, but, as a forgiving person, she wouldn't scold Cordelia. Still, she felt a little sorry for her child. "He's a size large."

"Oh." Cordelia, noticing Ava's tone, quickly picked out two gray shirts for Jamie.

By the time the two of them got home, it was nearly evening. Cordelia was tired and retreated to her room to rest.

She received a message on Facebook from Adrian. [You should've stuck with Jamie from the start and saved us all the trouble. Ronan's too ruthless, raised me up so high just to drop me so hard. I don't know how I'm going to get through this year. It's smarter to choose a man who loves you, than one you love."

Cordelia didn't respond. But for the first time, she thought her brother made some sense.

Since their mom passed away, Adrian hadn't really changed. And with his recent actions, she didn't want to interfere. So, she never asked how Kendra lost her baby.

Jamie came home. He lived upstairs, claiming that it would be more convenient since Cordelia was pregnant.

Cordelia called Jamie into her room. "I went shopping with Ava today and bought you two shirts. Try them on," she said.

"For me?" Jamie's eyes lit up.

Cordelia suddenly remembered Adrian's words. It's smarter to choose a man who loves you, than one you love.

"Yes, I thought of you when I saw them. And since it's Christmas, and you've been a great help, you should try them on."
