"I got this." Ronan rose from the couch and dialed the police.
Cordelia's anxiety eased slightly, but her heart still ached for her grandmother. She couldn't believe Samantha could act so heartlessly. It was good that Ronan was calling the police. Given his status, they would definitely take the case seriously.
Cordelia closed her eyes, and tears were trickling onto the couch. All three members of her family had met tragic ends. She couldn’t help but feel guilty, thinking she was a jinx.
"Did Brooklyn tell you all this?" Ronan asked Cordelia after ending his call.
Cordelia nodded, eyes still closed.
Ronan clamped his mouth shut, not uttering a word.
There was a knock on the door. It was Emerson.
Cordelia, feeling unwell, merely acknowledged Emerson's arrival.
"What did you do to upset Cordelia? The whole office is buzzing about it. They are calling her a jealous wife. I know Cordelia, and she is not like that. You must've done something." Emerson's eyes fell on Cordelia, who was wiping her tear-streaked face.
"Who's spreading these rumors? An assistant?" Ronan frowned slightly.
"Is it true or not? The whole office is saying that Cordelia is ready to give you a piece of her mind. Look at what you've done to her." Emerson moved closer to Cordelia, noticing her pale face.
"That's nonsense. Are you guys in the Finance Department jobless?" Ronan picked up a stack of reports from the table and tossed them at Emerson. "Go and revise these. Also…"
"What?"
"Never mind."
Ronan was considering asking Emerson to summon the PR Director, but Cordelia was still in the room, so he dropped the idea.
"That tickles." Cordelia, still drying her hair, moved her head to the side.
His deep, lingering breaths not only tickled her face but also sent shivers down her spine.
"Where does it tickle? Here?" His hand roamed on Cordelia.
Cordelia’s face flushed immediately. "I'm pregnant. We can't."
"Why can't we?" He asked.
"You managed when it was supposedly impossible before, didn’t you? This time, I’m just not in the mood!” Cordelia turned her face away, her mind drifting back to her grandmother.
She wasn't as close to her grandmother as she was to her mother, but regardless, her grandmother's death was unjust. She couldn't let Deanna and Samantha get away with it. With that, Cordelia lay down on the bed and fell asleep.
