The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 346

Ronan couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy at the sight of Cordelia's shaky, feeble legs, but he knew she had to take the first steps into motherhood. If not, she would drift further and further away from her baby. Without the child as a tether, she could leave the country at any time.

Cordelia entered Paloma's room. Paloma was a highly trained maternity nurse with top-notch professionalism; she was the kind who didn't cut corners.

Callum was sharing a bed with Paloma.

"Is the baby crying?" Cordelia asked.

"Yes, ma'am. He just woke up and started crying," Paloma replied.

Cordelia sat by the bed, clapped her hands, and said to Callum, "Come, Mommy will hold you."

Unexpectedly, little Callum cried harder, reaching out for Paloma's embrace instead.

A smile froze on Cordelia's face, and her hands were still hanging in mid-air.

Could this be the intuitive bond between mother and child? She had initially disliked this baby, and the baby seemed to know it.

She was now trying to change her mindset. After all, this child was her flesh and blood. She couldn't vent her anger on him because of another child she had never met. During the holiday season, her mood had been terrible, and the child's development was not good, largely due to her.

These days, she was trying to move out of her depressive state,

yet Callum kept pushing her away.

The seeds she had sown had now borne fruit.

Seeing Cordelia sitting there in a daze, Paloma tried to comfort her, "Ma'am, don't overthink it. The baby will always be closer to his mother. He's just woken up and is looking for the closest embrace. He can't recognize people yet."

Cordelia only hummed in response, feeling lost.

She stayed in Paloma's room for a while longer, waiting until the baby fell asleep before leaving.

When Cordelia got to the living room, the doorbell rang.

Who could be visiting at this hour? She wondered.
