"Jamie, you're such a catch. How come you're still single?" Ronan asked with a grin.
"Just haven't found the right one yet." Jamie replied, his face pale.
Ronan stopped talking to Jamie and started to discuss a juicy piece of gossip from Millstone: the wife of a well-known financier, Grant, had an affair with a young man. She thought her husband wouldn't do anything to her, but little did she know, Grant found photos of her and the young man, stripping her of everything. Both she and the young man were now unable to survive in Millstone.
"Yeah, she didn't watch her own back, letting a big shot like Grant become the laughing stock." Jamie's father grumbled, wiping his sweat with a tissue.
"This young lad's just asking for trouble, dragging others down with him. He's got a serious punishment coming!" Ronan declared, swirling his wine glass.
He seemed like he was just making casual conversation.
Cordelia, however, felt a shiver down her spine.
So did Jamie's father, Thomas Colby.
He was a sharp man. Just now, Cordelia mentioned she was studying for the CPA exam and Jamie knew her.
Ronan wasn't one for small talk, much less inviting him to dinner for no reason. He must be hinting at something.
Probably warning Cordelia and Jamie.
Ronan was really playing hardball.
After dinner, Cordelia and Ronan left.
Jamie was about to say something to Cordelia but was silenced by a stern look from his father.
"Are you throwing away your dignity?" Thomas scolded in a low voice.
Once in the car, Jamie asked Thomas, "Do you know Ronan? How did you meet?"
"You're not allowed to see Cordelia anymore. No matter how much you like her. She's Ronan's woman now." Thomas sternly warned Jamie.
"But there's no love between them! They're bound to break up." Jamie protested.
"As long as she's not leaving him, you're the one who should be seriously punished. Didn't you get Ronan's hint?"
"But dad, why are you scared of Ronan?"
Thomas' face became frosty, but he remained silent.
Years ago, when Ronan was studying abroad, Thomas was involved in a scheme against Ronan's father. Later, Ronan got hold of evidence and has been controlling him since. So, even though he was a man in his fifties, he had no dignity in front of Ronan.
In Ronan's car.
Cordelia didn't say a word, looking sick.
She began to feign sleep, ignoring Ronan.
She was wondering, why did Ronan choose to host a dinner now?
Glamour Hub messaged her on Monday, meaning, by then, Ronan had already planned the dinner.
"So it's not the truth?"
Cordelia remained silent.
She was furious. That day, Deanna only saw, she didn't hear their conversation.
So, what Deanna conveyed to Ronan was probably just Jamie holding her hand, maybe even adding some of her own assumptions.
As for what Cordelia said, she didn't hear it, even if she did, she wouldn't tell Ronan.
Deanna just wanted to stir up trouble, to make Cordelia divorce as soon as possible!
"If you dare to have any intimate behavior with other men in the future, I won't let you off." Ronan's voice was cold as he gave Cordelia the final warning.
Cordelia was taken aback by the phrase "intimate behavior", she angrily sat on the bed with her duvet.
"You're not allowed to sleep in the guest room tonight!"
Cordelia looked at him with reddened eyes, "You're a tyrant, possessive, selfish, and inconsiderate!"
"Want a divorce?" Ronan was smiling, but it wasn't genuine.
"Yes, I want to escape from your cage as soon as possible!"
"Don't even think about it!"
