The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 693

Victoria slumped in her seat, weighed down by a heavy cloud of gloom. She'd been silent for what felt like forever.

"Hey, how about we hit up a 24-hour diner and have a good chat?" Victoria suggested to Cordelia, then turned to the man in the driver's seat. "Mr. Evans, mind if I borrow your better half for a bit?"

Ronan, knowing they'd be talking about Harold and that Pearl Palms wasn't big enough to evade Janice's prying eyes, nodded. "Sure. I'll drop you off at a quiet club that's open around the clock."

"Thanks, Mr. Evans," Victoria said, a hint of relief in her voice.

Cordelia understood the unspoken message in Ronan's offer. He was just being protective, worried about the potential dangers lurking in the dead of night, particularly the kind of trouble that could come from unsavory men.

After finishing his call, Ronan drove the ladies to a swanky club. True to his word, the hostess guided them to a cozy room, complete with a large, inviting couch that could double as a bed, draped in soft, warm blankets. Feeling drowsy, Cordelia sprawled lazily onto the couch, pulling a blanket over her legs, and absentmindedly started nibbling on an apple.

"I'm so full of regret... It's all my fault," Victoria confessed, frustration evident in her voice. "When morning comes, I'll call up that trust fund classmate of mine who runs his own company. Just tell Harold the connection's through you, okay? Don't mention it's from me. He might refuse it otherwise."

Victoria's vulnerability was a stark contrast to her usual demeanor, and Cordelia couldn't help but feel for her. "But he's with Samantha now," she pointed out.
