The Day I Kissed An Older Man novel Chapter 2017

"Thanks for your kind words, but I still don't know what kind of job you're still planning to pursue." Stella's eyes held a hint of disdain. In her view, Melody—who had to find a job to support herself—posed no threat to her.

Melody lowered her head, feeling a bit uneasy. "I...haven't really decided. I just want to find something that suits me."

"Oh, I see." Stella walked a few steps thoughtfully, then stopped in front of Melody. "How about this? Since Mister Shaun and I are old acquaintances, I can put in some good words for you and ask him to arrange a job for you when I see him later.

For some reason, even though Stella was offering her help with a smile, Melody could not help but find her intimidating. She had a feeling that Stella was not as benign and simple as she appeared on the surface. She felt that Stella's thoughts were not something she could easily fathom.

"How about a clerical job?" offered Stella after pondering for a while. "It's an easy job, and the pay isn't bad. I'll talk to Mister Shaun about it later."

It was only then Melody realized that Stella was oblivious to others' feelings, persistently trying to convey what she considered goodwill regardless of others' wishes.

However, Melody did not need her goodwill, and she even found it rather annoying.

"That won't be necessary, Miss Stella. Really. I can find a job on my own."

Stella's expression soured at being turned down the second time. Despite her good intentions in helping Melody find a job and considering whether the work would be easy, Melody remained unappreciative.

Both of them fell into a moment of silence when a woman emerged from the director's office, smiling as she approached them. "Miss Melody, Mister Shaun is waiting for you inside."
