The Enticing CEO’s Chosen Bride novel Chapter 1547

Chapter 1547

Damon looked down at the petite woman lying on his stomach and raised an eyebrow. "What are you up to now?"

What did he mean by "up to now"? What had she done before?

Chloe didn't reply directly, "Just asking."

Damon shook his head, "Well, I'm not."

Upon hearing this, Chloe frowned, "Didn't I give you the 20 billion from Las Vegas?"

He replied, "Does having 20 billion make you a rich dude?"

Chloe's mouth fell open, speechless for a moment. Didn't he consider 20 billion as being rich? Then what was his idea of a rich dude? She even thought of herself as a super-rich lady now!

She said, "Having 20 billion should make you rich."

Damon said, "Guess rich dudes aren't as rich as I thought."

Please, just shut up! If people heard this, it might bring trouble! It was infuriating.

Chloe, "What about the 20 billion..."

Damon, "What? Didn't you give it to me? Are you backing out?"

Chloe rubbed her chin against Damon's muscular stomach, envious of his abs. How could his body be so good?

Chloe, "I'm not backing out, just wondering if you have any plans for it. If not."

"I have plans."

Damon didn't even let Chloe finish her sentence before answering.

A hint of disappointment flashed across Chloe's face. "Alright."

Damon gently stroked her hair, "You okay?"

Chloe looked a bit disappointed, but she shook her head, "No."

Damon watched her for a moment, then, pushing her shoulders, he laid her down on the pillow. He said, "Go to sleep early. It's late."

Chloe sighed, staring at the ceiling with wide-open eyes, clearly not feeling sleepy. She tried to close her eyes, but it didn't last long before she opened them again. She turned to look at the man next to her, only to meet his intense gaze, as if he knew she couldn't sleep and was waiting for her to open her eyes.

Caught red-handed, Chloe blinked and gave him an awkward smile.

She said, "... I'm not sleepy now."

A few seconds later, Chloe said, "I need to use the restroom."

A few minutes later, Chloe lay back down on the bed.

Finally, Chloe nodded her head.

Watching Damon turn and walk into the kitchen, Chloe curled up on the couch, picked up the remote and turned on the TV. She found a random movie, hugged her legs, and rested her chin on her knees. Her eyes looked forward but somewhat unfocused.

No matter what happened to Carolina, she didn't care, but every time she closed her eyes, she would see Jonah standing on the witness stand in court. His trembling when he used his crutch, his facial expressions, and every glance, even every tremble in his voice, were magnified in her mind, making her restless.

She didn't care about the comments on the internet, but she herself was wondering if she had gone too far. She really didn't expect Jonah to testify in person. She closed her eyes and, took a deep breath, and then let it out, finally burying her face in her knees.

Hearing a soft clink of glass, Chloe looked up to see Damon putting a cup of milk on the table, then staring at her. He said, "The milk's a bit hot. Wait a bit before you drink it."

Chloe managed a smile and nodded.

Damon, "These were his choices, and you don't need to take it to heart. After hiding for so many years, he might have wanted to be freed from the lies. He just lacked the right opportunity. His decision to testify in court today was meaningful. He achieved his wish and protected you."

Today's events were somewhat overwhelming, but compared to what she had experienced before, it wasn't that important. Her unusual behavior today was just because she encountered people and things she couldnt let go of.

She had not been involved in the first half of Jonah’s life, so she couldn't judge his past. In her life, especially those years, any bit of care and warmth from a family member was enough to remember for a lifetime. Jonah's behavior today was completely out of her expectations.

She sighed deeply, "His past actions have nothing to do with me, just that he treated me, compared to Carolina, quite well...

Damon, "So you're a sucker for nice guys, huh? If someone shows you a little kindness, you're ready to give them the world in return, right?"

This woman, she was just too easy to read. If someone was good to her, she'd give back even more. How could anyone see her as cold-hearted?

But sometimes, being cold-hearted wasn't a bad thing, you know.
