Sebastian remained silent as they walked.
When they reached the roadside, the team was preparing to load the rune-covered cage onto a truck. The once proud Avery spotted Madison, who Sebastian was holding.
A twisted smile spread across his face. "Madison, we've already gone through the ceremony. You're now my wife."
The cage was lifted onto the truck, and a curtain adorned with red runes was draped over it.
Yet Avery's voice still echoed from inside. "Madison, only I can break the divine talismans. No one else can."
As the vehicle gradually pulled away, his voice faded into the distance.
Sebastian strode toward the car, still holding Madison. He placed her gently inside before settling into the seat beside her.
Wanda pressed her lips together, clutching her backpack as she took the passenger seat.
She glanced at Sebastian and Madison in the back seat before quickly averting her gaze. The atmosphere between them felt off!
They arrived at the hospital owned by the Hall family to ensure confidentiality.
Thanks to Sebastian's arrangements, the hospital staff was already prepared, and the doctors quickly took the injured Madison for examination.
"Ms. Locke, you have a ruptured lung that requires careful recovery. No surgery is necessary," the doctor informed Sebastian after reviewing the scans.
Sebastian simply nodded in response.
Wanda followed the doctor out to get the medication.
The ward was left with only Madison and Sebastian.
Sebastian sat on the edge of the hospital bed, his gaze half-lowered. As soon as Madison moved, he looked up. "What do you need?"
"Water."
He poured a cup of warm water and handed it to Madison. After she finished drinking it, he took the cup and set it aside.
He then sat silently by the bed like before. Madison was dumbfounded. Sebastian was treating the hospital ward like it was a courtroom.
She said softly, "My injuries will heal quickly. Cultivators are different from ordinary people. Our bodies are not the same."
Sebastian glanced at her with a smirk. "Ms. Locke, you seem to have forgotten that you almost died from a dagger just last month."
Madison frowned. "That was an accident."
