"Mr. Xavier, what's wrong?"
The organizer of the meeting saw that Derek's face darkened, so he quickly went forward to ask.
Derek had got rid of his earlier emotions and realized that he had lost his composure. He forced a smile. "Nothing. It's just that something came to mind."
Seeing that Derek was fine, the man left wisely. Derek's eyes darkened and he was so upset that he even wanted to leave this damn venue.
In the hospital.
Meredith sat and talked with Amelia while watching Nolan work through the treatment, during which Meredith functioned as a helper. However, Meredith was obviously absent-minded today.
"Mer? Mer?" Amelia watched as Nolan walked out while Meredith still stared straight ahead without any reaction. So Amelia couldn't help shaking her head.
What was wrong with this child? She had been here all morning, but her mind had long been lost.
"Ah?" When Meredith heard the voice, she suddenly came to her senses and smiled apologetically at Nolan. After all, he was the professional who was arranged by Derek, so he could not be neglected no matter what.
Meredith stood up and see him out.
Nolan glanced at Meredith. "Miss Mason, I have something to tell you."
Meredith thought it had something to do with her mother's illness. So she nodded and followed him, but she did not notice that the man's eyes became sharper the moment he turned around.
"You seem to be a little absent-minded today. Why? Is there anything wrong?"
When the two of them arrived at the rooftop, there were very few people passing by, so it was very quiet and suitable for a private conversation.
"..." Meredith didn't expect Nolan to ask this. The man in front of her was usually not interested in other people's privacy. Instead, he only concentrated on his job duty.
"Nothing, I just..." Although Meredith and Nolan knew each other, they were never intimate enough to confess their own affairs.
Seeing Meredith lower her head, Nolan scrutinized her. It didn't seem like the look when a doctor was looking at a patient's family member. Instead, it seemed that he was some kind of superior figure, looking down at the ant on the ground.
Meredith thought for a moment and looked up. "It's just a personal matter."
When Meredith sensed that Nolan kept on looking her that way, she found it weird and was stunned for a moment, and her heart beat wildly.
The foreboding of seeing Nolan for the first time surfaced again.
The next moment, however, Nolan smiled at her. "That's good. I thought you were in trouble. If you encounter any problems, you can tell me. After all... I'm here to help you."
Nolan's voice was still gentle and elegant and he looked innocent. Meredith started to feel that her suspicion just now might be wrong.
After all, after Nolan came here, her mother's condition had improved a lot. What was more, he was also a professional specially invited by Derek. She seemed not to have any unnecessary doubts about such a person.
"I'm fine. Thank you for your concern."
"Really? It's fine."
Seeing that Meredith was not suspicious, Nolan loosened his slightly clenched fingers.
"In that case, I'll go back first. I can't leave my mother alone."
