"A cultivator?" Delmar looked around in confusion.
Wynter pointed to herself, smiling confidently, making her beauty even more striking.
Delmar had just taken a sip of tea and nearly choked, spitting it out in shock. "You, Mrs. Yarwood?"
She nodded. "Don't let my appearance fool you. I spent part of my childhood training on the mountain with my mentor. I'm not saying I'm all-powerful, but when it comes to Arcane Divination or analyzing fortune around a villa like the Maynerd family's, I know what I'm doing."
Wynter wasn't boasting, and it wasn't modesty, either. She couldn't match Dalton, who had sensed something was wrong with Havenia's fortune the moment they arrived. But when it came to detecting malevolent spirits, she had always been exceptionally perceptive.
Still, Delmar remained skeptical. It was hard to imagine a business heiress versed in Arcane Divination.
Then Dalton, in his usual laid-back tone, said, "I'm the one she pulled back from the jaws of death. Don't worry, Mr. Delmar."
Delmar didn't quite feel worthy of being referred to by his first name by Dalton, but when he heard Dalton say that Wynter had literally saved his life, he looked at her again with a shift in his eyes.
Every helper who had been with the Yarwood family for a long time knew about Dalton's condition. It wasn't just some chronic illness—it was intertwined with the entire Yarwood family's destiny.
Many cultivators had visited the Yarwoods' manor over the years. All of them said the same thing—Dalton was with an extremely rare and noble fate, but it came at a cost that he wouldn't live past 30. They were told to prepare for the worst.
He had always been sickly, his energy seemingly weaker than others', yet no malevolent spirit had ever dared come close to him. Even so, not even Kaspar from Mt. Dragon could promise that Dalton would make it to 30.
Delmar had heard rumors about Dalton's recovery over the past six months and how he had gone from someone who couldn't be seen in public to now flying to Havenia as if nothing was wrong.
He had assumed something miraculous had happened, but he had never imagined that the miracle was Wynter.
Delmar was visibly moved. "Once we finish this chowder, I'll take you both straight to the Maynerd residence!"
From the bottom of his heart, he hoped the Maynerd family would find stability and that Driscoll would be re-elected. His leadership was the best possible outcome for both local business owners and for broader harmony between Cascadia and Havenia.
Now that they had a new objective, the trio quickly finished their meal.
Meanwhile, Jensen didn't join them inside. Instead, he roamed the area, checking for any lingering traces of malevolent spirits. He might not have the same sensitivity as Chaos, but he had his own methods, and maybe he might uncover something useful.
Soon, Wynter and the others were finishing up and preparing to pay when a commotion broke out at a nearby stall.
They heard the shop owner arguing with a couple of tourists. She was speaking in sharp Havenian, her expression sour. "If you can't even speak Havenian, don't come here!"
The two young women looked confused. They clearly didn't understand a word she said.
The owner scoffed and muttered, "If you can't afford it, don't eat it. How annoying!"
They caught that last word—annoying.
The tourists looked genuinely distressed. "We're just here to eat. What's your problem? You're so rude!"
The shop owner waved them off impatiently, signaling the next customer, clearly unwilling to serve them. She wasn't interested in doing business with Cascadians.
The two women were clearly upset. They had come to enjoy the city, only to be treated like this.
