The Kiss that Sparked it All (Ellinor and Theo) novel Chapter 2437

Balfour mused thoughtfully, "Since we've nearly wrapped up this investigation, do me a favor while you're at it, will you?"

Leo was taken aback. Their boss, Balfour, was usually strictly business and rarely asked them for personal favors. His curiosity was piqued - what could the boss possibly need his help with?

But when he heard it was about Ms. Dunhill again, Leo couldn't help but think that she must really be the apple of Balfour's eye.

"You won’t be doing this for nothing. I need you to dig into how Clara got herself out. And remember, keep it low-key with anything related to the Dunhill family. Just bring your findings straight to me."

Balfour worried that making too much noise could spook someone, and if his grandmother got wind of it, she'd surely create a scene at the Dunhills' doorstep, which would only make things worse for Ivy.

After hanging up, Balfour lingered on the balcony a moment longer before turning back to Ivy's side. Seeing her furrowed brow even in sleep made his heart clench.

"Are you this troubled because you can't let go of those people?"

Balfour knew Ivy was all heart and loyalty. Despite having been ignored by her family for years, she found it hard to completely sever ties.

She might say they didn't deserve her, but deep down, she hoped for a sliver of their affection.

And that wasn’t her fault. Who could truly abandon the notion of parental love?

All Balfour wanted was for his presence to bring Ivy some happiness and to keep her from crying over people who weren't worth her tears.

"Your eyes are swollen from crying."
