His fingers clenched suddenly under the table, and he was unsure of what to say then.

Regina continued, "I'm not trying to play the sympathy card. I just want you to trust that I would never use such tactics to get close to someone I like. Please, just give me that tiny bit of trust for all the time we've known each other, okay?"

She looked at Nolan with hopeful eyes, longing for a positive response. During the silence while Nolan pondered, an unexpected visitor arrived.

Francis walked in with a hearty laugh, and he was even casually slinging an arm around Nolan's shoulder, "Regina, you're still under the weather. Why are you here entertaining guests again? But if it's for Nolan, just drop a hint to your old man next time, will you? After all, this is my future son-in-law we're talking about; I should be in on the meet and greet."

Regina's expression changed instantly, "How did you get here? How did you know I was here?"

Then she glanced at Nolan, who was also looking back at her with a sarcastic expression.

"Believe me, I have no idea why he's here!" she exclaimed.

"Dear child, things have come to this point and why you're still trying to hide it? If you hadn't tipped me off about this meeting place in advance, how could I have possibly found you? Even though you two are about to be wed, honesty is key in these little things. It's the only way you'll make it in the long run," Francis lectured with an air of superiority, which only added to Regina's discomfort. Yet she was at a loss as to how he knew of their meeting place.

Nolan had been silent from the start, but it was clear to anyone that he was becoming sullen.
