"You don’t have a cell phone?!"
Charlie could not believe his ears when he heard Wendy's words.
These days, even the aunties who set up stalls by the street would also own a smartphone. So, how was it possible for a young and fashionable girl like Wendy t o not even own her own cell phone?! This was indeed a bit unbelievable.
When Wendy saw the shocked look on Charlie's face, she felt even more embarrassed. She stuttered as she explained, "Brother-in-Law, I... I... my cell phone had been previously... taken away by Donald's men..."
Wendy lowered her head in shame after she was done speaking.
After saying those words, Wendy felt as though she had truly lost all of her face.
The entire Wilson family was already living in poverty, and they had nowhere else to go.
She could not even afford to get herself a cell phone. S o, this was how poor and desolate they really were...
As soon as Charlie heard her words, he understood the situation immediately.
After Donald had surrendered and pledged his allegiance to Charlie, he was also filled with hatred for the Wilson family. Donald knew that Charlie was not o n good terms with the Wilson family, so, it was only natural for Donald to give the Wilson family a hard time.
In truth, if Charlie were to just mention this matter to Donald, Donald would certainly restore the Wilson family's previous living standards for them, and he might even continue investing in the Wilson family just so he could bring the Wilson family back to life. 2
After all, it would only cost tens of millions of dollars t 0 revive the Wilson family. Although Donald had already lost most of his fortune and was not as rich and wealthy as he used to be, he was still way richer compared to a poor family. As long as he was willing t 0 take out a small sum of money, it would be more than sufficient to feed the Wilson family.
However, Charlie did not intend to do that. 1
The Wilson family had ended up in this state because of their doings. This was especially so for Lady Wilson and Christopher, who had been deliberately fighting against Charlie and his family all this while.
Therefore, they would have to get their just punishment.
As he thought about this, Charlie made up his mind to do Wendy a small favor. At the very least, this could be considered a small reward for her because she knew how to admit her own mistakes and turn from her old ways. After all, she had already apologized to him sincerely and even referred to him as her brother-in-law.
Charlie had always been a fair and righteous person when it came to punishments and rewards.
As long as the crime that was committed was not a capital crime, he would be willing to grant a certain amount of forgiveness as long as the other party was truly feeling remorseful and willing to repent. 2
Take Donald's family for instance. Although Kian was a f*cking scumbag, in the final analysis, the crime that he had committed was not worthy of death.
Therefore, Wendy also hoped that she would be able to make as much money as possible. Even if it was only a few dozen dollars more, at the very least, she would b e able to buy two catties of meat for her father and brother, or two big bones to make some soup to drink. 2
So, she bowed in front of Charlie as she said sincerely, "Thank you, Brother-in-Law... I am indeed in urgent need of money, so I will not be polite with you anymore
H
After that, she took the fifty dollars from Charlie with both of her hands.
Charlie nodded before he said, "You should take a taxi there. You should be able to get there for just ten dollars."
Although Wendy felt a little reluctant to spend the money on the taxi fare, she did not dare to disobey Charlie since he had already said so. So, she hurriedly said, "Okay, Brother-in-Law. Thank you, Brother-in-Law!"
Charlie hummed slightly before he asked her, "What time do you usually get off work?" 2
Wendy replied in a soft voice, "The customers who come to take a look at the houses usually come from ten o’clock in the morning to a little more than seven o'clock at night. So, we only get off work after halfpast seven at night."
Charlie nodded before he said, "Alright, then. You should hurry up and go. I'm leaving too." 12
