Wendy had successfully taken the first step to take over Mallow Stenhouse Etiquette Corporation with the support of all of the hostesses. 4
Wendy continued getting busy at the company until very late at night before she reluctantly caught the last bus as she dragged her exhausted body back to the villa at Thompson First.
Ever since Wendy had started working, the Wilson family had rarely had to go hungry. They finally had some rice at home. She could not afford to feed Lady Wilson and the useless Christopher and Harold any meat or vegetable, but they could at least steam a pot o f white rice to eat and satisfy their hunger when they were hungry.
When Wendy returned home, Lady Wilson had just finished serving both Christopher and Harold. She had made half a bowl of rice with boiling water for herself, and she sprinkled some salt into it before she started eating it alone. 3
When she saw that Wendy was home, she could not help but complain a little. "Wendy, why did you come home so late today? I was serving your father and brother at home all by myself, and I am really exhausted now. Why didn't you get off work earlier to
come home and help me?"
Wendy replied a little apologetically, "I am sorry, Grandma. I took a little longer because there is a lot of business in the company..."
Lady Wilson was a little dissatisfied as she said, " Aren't you just a hostess now? You should just come home with the money after you are done with work. How can you work till so late at night?”
Harold, who was lying on the bed, could not help but say, "That’s right, Wendy. I really felt like eating a bowl of egg and lean meat congee today. I was thinking that I would be able to wait for you to come home after making some money so that you can buy half a catty o f pork as well as some eggs. In the end, I had to wait until so late at night...” 4
