"So, we're not going to chase them?" the commander confusedly asked.
"Well, if we don't chase them, they will have a chance to regain their strength. We are already short on our soldiers too. If we continue to defend, our defense line will be broken through sooner or later. So, we must attack instead of defending ourselves. Give me one thousand soldiers who are willing to follow me. Then ask several commanders to lead their own troops and be on standby. On my signal, we will immediately launch a surprise attack all at the same time. This will take the South United Army by surprise!" Alyssa explained. She seemed to have taken control of the whole situation already. Although she knew that Rocky must have set a trap for her, she still planned to push through with the ambush of the South United Army. She would fight against Rocky to death. That was how much she hated him.
In fact, Alyssa had planned to fight to the end from the very beginning. She would rather fight till there was no soldier left than let Rocky break through their defensive line and take this strategic position. Because once the South United Army's plan failed, the whole United Army would fall into a greater predicament.
With that, Alyssa led one thousand soldiers to chase after the retreating South United Army. The other commanders also quickly gathered the remaining soldiers, leaving five thousand soldiers to guard the camp. The rest followed closely behind Alyssa, waiting for the opportunity to act.
Meanwhile, Rocky led the rest of the South United Army to retreat all the way back to their base. However, the speed of their retreat was rather slow. When Alyssa and her army caught up with them, they had only retreated for less than a mile.
When Rocky saw that Alyssa chased after them with her troops, he smiled wickedly. He knew that she fell into his trap in the end. He knew that Alyssa would suspect that the South United Army had set an ambush, and that she would play along and seize the opportunity to finally defeat him. So, it was completely within his expectation that Alyssa would come after them. Besides that, he was sure that Alyssa was the perfect bait. The enemy's major forces would come if the ambush of the South United Army were prevented.
Yet, the smart Alyssa didn't realize that she missed one important thing. Rocky was also a bait. His real purpose was to lure out the enemy's remaining forces and let Marcia take the opportunity to attack and seize the enemy's military camp.
Of course, what Rocky did was putting himself in a dangerous situation. He had less than ten thousand soldiers left, while the enemy was almost in full force with at least twenty thousand soldiers. With Alyssa's strength, even Rocky could not use such a small number of soldiers to turn the tables. So, there was no way that he and his remaining soldiers could defeat them. They had no way to retreat and the only thing they could do was to buy more time so Marcia could lead the army to successfully occupy the enemy's military camp.
Before long, the soldiers led by Alyssa finally arrived. With that, Rocky and the South United Army immediately stopped.
Seeing that Rocky had suddenly stopped, Alyssa guessed that Marcia and the rest of the South United Army must have been hiding nearby. So, she waved her hand and signaled for her soldiers to stop as well.
"I didn't expect you to really chase after us," Rocky coldly said as he stared at Alyssa.
"Well, it's because I don't want you to run away like this," Alyssa snapped.
"Aren't you afraid that I set an ambush and I'm just waiting for you to fall into the trap?" Rocky menacingly sneered.
