The human race army currently had a total of three army-leading commanders. Each of them was leading one hundred thousand troops to guard the left, middle, and right of the border battlefield area of the Ethereal Region to fend off the spiritual race's invasion. Under the three army-leading commanders were a total of eight grand commanders. One of them was the newly-slaughtered Raiden Chen, who was under the army-leading commander responsible for guarding the northwest battlefield. A grand commanders was only inferior to a commander in chief and the three army-leading commanders in the human army.
So those commanders who were qualified for the new position of grand commander were itching to have a shot.
"Then this competition will be a fierce one. A total of eight representatives from the Sky-suppressing School have been sent to the border battlefield this time. Two of them were assigned to us, and the remaining six have been assigned to the other three pass-guarding commanders. With their help, this contest will be relentless," Bertram commented.
"There should be nine commanders in the left army, but only four of them are guarding the pass. The other five are guarding different regions of the front line on the left side. Apart from me, there are only three other pass-guarding commanders who pose as strong threats. We have a great shot at this," Tucker said confidently.
"Then we must seize every opportunity to contribute," Bertram said. "But the battlefield we are assigned to protect is relatively peaceful. Our contributions may be not so impressive."
"It’s better to contribute something than nothing at all. How about this? Starting tomorrow, arrange for Deputy Commander Ma and Deputy Commander Lin to lead their troops to patrol the battlefield in shifts. They will each have a turn every three days. They might just encounter the enemy who plans to seize the Tiger Whisker Pass during a surprise attack," Tucker suggested.
"Yes, sir." Bertram bowed and left.
Meanwhile, Rocky followed a grouchy-looking Deputy Commander Lin to where the supporting troop was. As the name suggested, Deputy Commander Lin’s troop was responsible for providing assistance in times of crisis. Therefore, unlike the vanguard which often had the opportunity to strike, the supporting troop seldom had the same opportunity to fight. Thus, it would be difficult for them to contribute anything. On the bright side, they were the army with the least number of casualties. Many soldiers did their best to enter this troop. Thus, being its commander was deemed a well-paid and easy job.
Although they merely provided assistance, they were nearly as strong as the vanguard, and they almost had the same number of spirit warriors. After all, they were assigned the important task of ensuring the safety of their army provisions. If the provisions were not protected well, the entire army would be in great danger.
Normally, the supporting troop would not join the battle. But if they were to, that would mean their army had fallen into a huge crisis.
The supporting troop led by Deputy Commander Lin was stationed in an open area on the northeast side of the Tiger Whisker Pass. There were multiple military camps where many soldiers and spirit warriors came and went.
As soon as Deputy Commander Lin entered his military camp with Rocky, he called in a middle-aged man who looked like a commissioner. "Gage, this is Basil. He’s one of the two King Realm warriors sent by the Sky-suppressing School to aid the Tiger Whisker Pass. Commander Wang has appointed him to join our troop and lead our team of spirit warriors. Please accompany him to meet them."
"Yes, sir." Once Gage Xue heard that Rocky's identity, he straightened up and bowed respectfully towards Rocky. “My name is Gage Xue. I’m in charge of the daily affairs of the back-up force. If you need anything, just tell me!”
"Thank you, Mr. Xue," Rocky replied graciously.
"But what about the current team leader Kye? What happens to him now that Basil is the new team leader? Kye has a bad temper, after all," Gage Xue said worriedly.
