The Medallion novel Chapter 1823

The temperament of Princess Layla was a bit different from the lady that Rocky had met earlier. The princess in front of him right now was so dignified and graceful, while the previous one was more like a lively girl with a youthful aura.

In fact, if Rocky did not remember Layla's aura, he would have thought that she had a twin sister.

Meanwhile, Layla was in a daze, looking intently at Rocky. She and Gilbert were expecting that he would come out a bit later, but he was already here as if the enchanted barrier was not much of a challenge for him.

"Well done! It seemed that Leader Gilbert was indeed right about you. You are so talented!" As soon as Layla regained her senses, she did not hold back on praising Rocky.

"And I didn't expect that you have such a naughty side, Your Royal Highness," Rocky replied with a meaningful smile.

"Ahem!" Not expecting Rocky's response, Layla could not help but glare at him, signaling to Rocky not to reveal what happened between them earlier.

However, since Gilbert was a shrewd man, he immediately realized that the two of them must have met before. Of course, he did not show that in his facial expression. Besides, it was a good thing that Rocky was approved by Layla.

"Godly Genius, please have a seat too!" Layla urged.

Immediately after, Rocky took the offer and sat down beside Gilbert.

"I've already heard from Leader Gilbert that the Ghost Fief is willing to support me, but I also want to confirm from you that you are willing to assist me and work for me." The expression on Layla's face instantly became serious as she looked at Rocky.

"Hmm, what if I say no?" Rocky asked with a cunning smile.

Obviously, both Gilbert and Layla were taken aback. They did not expect that they would hear this kind of response from Rocky.

"Odin, what are you saying? Didn't we agree about this yesterday?" Gilbert immediately turned to Rocky and wanted to reprimand him.

"Well, I only said that I would help Princess Layla. I never said that I would work for her," Rocky corrected, dwelling on the technicalities.

"So, is there a difference between the two?" Layla's beautiful eyes narrowed. She deemed that Rocky wanted to play with words.

"Yes, there is. If I work for you, it's obvious that our relationship will become a superior-subordinate one. I don't like that. I don't like working for someone else. I am willing to help you as long as it won't be the case," Rocky clarified, firmly declaring his stand.

"You are indeed an interesting person, Odin. So, tell me. If you don't like working for me, what kind of relationship do you want ours to be?" Layla played along, letting out a genuine smile.

"Well, it's up to you. Anything is fine as long as it is not the superior-subordinate kind," Rocky said in a very casual way.

"I see. Then, how about we become friends instead?" Partially reading what kind of person Rocky was, Layla suggested this.

Gilbert was surprised. He did not expect that the princess would want to be friends with Rocky.

"Sure. That sounds great," Rocky instantly agreed.

"All right then. From now on, you, Odin, are my friend," Layla confirmed.

"So, can I start calling you Layla?" Rocky asked, trying to really get familiar with her.

"Yes, of course. Feel free to do so." Surprisingly, Layla was also an easy-going person. She didn't mind not having the formalities at all.

"Now that we are friends, I shall give you a gift. Think of it as a sign of my support for you." The truth was Rocky just wanted to test if the princess was indeed worthy of his help. Since she proved to be a trustworthy person, he did not hesitate to reveal what he had been doing recently.

"Oh? A gift this soon? I sure am looking forward to it." Of course, Layla had no idea what Rocky was about to give her. But since he made it sound like it was a big deal, she became expectant of it.

"Then, that settles it. I already told you everything you need to know. For now, you two can continue to talk. I'll just wait outside." Afterward, Rocky went out of the hall.

"Your Royal Highness, please forgive Odin's rudeness! That guy doesn't really know much about proper etiquette." The moment Rocky got out of the hall, Gilbert took the chance to cup his hands and apologize on his behalf.

"Ha-ha! Don't worry. I am not angry. If anything, I am glad that the Ghost Fief has been blessed with a precious Godly Genius this time," Layla remarked, praising Rocky and his brilliant mind.

"I must admit that Odin is indeed very extraordinary. The only problem with him is that he tends to be quite unruly and independent. He always does what he thinks is right. Thus, I'm afraid that it will be hard to control him in the future," Gilbert said with a worried expression.

"Isn't that normal? All Godly Geniuses tend to be like that. They don't like being controlled and ordered around. I don't think you should make a big deal out of it. After all, if he can help me ascend to the throne, the Ghost Fief will obviously become the biggest beneficiary. You should learn to trust him more." Layla comforted Gilbert and gave him a word of advice.

Gilbert nodded, understanding what the princess meant. Eventually, they finished their conversation, and Gilbert also left the hall.

Upon going out of the hall, Gilbert saw Rocky waiting for him. At this moment, there was still an obvious dissatisfaction in his eyes that was caused by Rocky's actions.

"I guess you are still mad at me, Leader Gilbert. Are you thinking that I had hidden that information from you on purpose?" Rocky asked straightforwardly. He deemed that Gilbert would not talk about it openly, so he decided to initiate discussing it.

"It's good that you know what you've done," Gilbert answered coldly.

"The reason why I didn't tell you about it is that you'd think that my plan is a bit far-fetched. If I told you about it in advance, I'm sure that you would not let me discuss it with the princess," Rocky explained ingenuously.

"I know that your plan is feasible, but it's still full of uncertainty. Of course, I will object because the princess can't take those huge risks."

"That's where you are mistaken. My plan will not affect the princess whether it succeeds or not; and the whole thing is not dangerous at all," Rocky said with a devious laugh.
