The Mind-Reading Mate Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me novel Chapter 124

Chapter 124: An Honest Murderer (1)

"No, wife!" Edmund quickly tried to calm her down before any tears could fall. "You’re not dumb at all. I made so many mistakes when I first started doing my royal duties! Two mistakes are nothing!"

[If someone as dumb as me could handle royal duties, then my wife can do it even better than me!]

"Really?" Primrose took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm in her mind. "So ... I’m not terrible at it?"

Edmund looked at her with certainty. "My wife is never bad in my eyes."

That was when she realized she had asked the wrong person. He was the same man who once said she could burn down the palace, and he’d still fix it for her.

But ... sometimes, that was exactly the kind of answer she needed to hear.

Even if it wasn’t the most logical or objective, his words had a way of softening her heart and easing her worries.

"Thank you," Primrose said with a warm smile. "You make me feel much better now. I’ll do my best not to make any more mistakes."

Edmund hesitated for a moment before finally asking, "Does that mean ... you’ll reduce my punishment?"

"No." Primrose returned to her meal, completely unfazed. "You still have to wait three more days, Your Majesty."

Edmund took a deep breath and clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He was clearly frustrated, but still doing his best to restrain himself. "I understand."

That evening, Edmund decided to stay busy in his study. He even skipped dinner.

The maid told Primrose that the King was busy with important matters, but she knew better. He was probably just trying to stay away from her, fighting his own thoughts and trying not to give in to temptation.

Although she was a little annoyed since he had promised to make time for dinner with her, she also understood.

Maybe keeping some distance was best for him right now.

So she asked the maid to bring him something nice for dinner. Something warm, just in case he was stressed.

Later that night, just after Primrose had changed into her nightgown, a loud knock rattled her door, so loud it made her frown.

Who would dare disturb her at this hour?

When she opened the door, she saw Salem standing there, looking excited. Behind him, Callen was trying to stop him from knocking again.

"Why are you here this late?" Primrose glanced toward Edmund’s room, thinking he was probably still in his study or he would come out the moment he heard the loud knocking.

Still, she was certain that he must’ve heard Salem’s arrival. Knowing her husband, he had probably been about to check on her, but stopped when he realized it was Salem at the door.

"Your Majesty, I’ve finished what you asked me to do a few days ago," Salem said excitedly. "I used it on someone and he died immediately."

Within seconds, Primrose slammed the bedroom door shut to keep Edmund from hearing the conversation through the doll.

Callen stared at Salem in disbelief. "Sir Vesper, did you just admit that you killed someone?!"

"Yes, I did," Salem replied casually, as if it was no big deal. His face didn’t show even a hint of guilt.

Callen gasped, but before he could say anything else, Primrose jumped in quickly, "He killed a rat. I asked him to make rat poison because I noticed rodents wandering around the kitchen area."
