The Mind-Reading Mate Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me novel Chapter 207

Chapter 207: The Weight of a First Kill

"I’m sorry." Primrose clung to Edmund’s arm, her head still bowed after throwing up. She turned her eyes away, unable to look at the mess she had made. It made her feel sick all over again. "I’m really sorry about this."

"Why are you apologizing?" Edmund guided her gently to the nearest garden bench, then crouched beside her, carefully wiping her mouth with a handkerchief.

Primrose took the handkerchief from him and dabbed her lips herself. "Don’t you think it’s kind of ridiculous? Throwing up just because I saw someone die? It’s not even the first time I’ve watched someone die right in front of me."

She did feel nauseous when she saw someone die before her, but this time, the feeling was different. It was hard for her to explain, but it felt more revolting, like something was churning violently inside her stomach.

And even though she was glad Thevan was finally gone for good, there was a strange weight sitting in her chest, ike someone had placed a giant stone in her heart.

Edmund spoke in a low voice, "But ... have you ever seen someone die because you were the one who killed them?"

Primrose’s entire body froze when she heard that. After thinking for a moment, she finally realized that this was the result of taking someone’s life.

"I ... I’ve never killed anyone before." Primrose lowered her head, wanting to say that she didn’t technically kill Thevan, but she knew it would be pointless because Edmund already knew about her mind-control ability.

She whispered, "This is my first time."

"I know." Edmund held her hands, looking straight into her eyes. "That’s why I never wanted you to dirty your hands with ... killing." He gently patted her hands, trying to soothe her. "It’s always hard the first time."

Maybe she didn’t physically harm Thevan. But the truth was, she still made it happen.

"I’m sorry," she said again.

Edmund furrowed his brow. "Why are you apologizing again?"

"I should’ve told you first before doing something like that." She looked down, nudging a small rock with the tip of her shoe. "But honestly, I didn’t intend to kill him. I didn’t even know my ability would work on him twice. It actually ... scares me a little."

She still wondered what might happen if she accidentally used her mind-control ability and ended up hurting someone else.

After all, powers as great as hers always come with a heavy price.

Primrose wasn’t even sure if the misery she had endured in her first life was enough to pay for the blessings she had received in this one.

"No one gets things right the first time," Edmund said. "Sometimes you’ll make a few mistakes, whether big or small. But without those mistakes, you’ll never truly understand how to control something this powerful."

Primrose whispered, "But mistakes ... I can’t afford to make mistakes with this ability. What if I accidentally kill someone? That kind of mistake ... it’s something that can’t be undone."

Edmund sighed softly. "I won’t lie and say it’s impossible. You might make that kind of mistake someday. But my wife, something as powerful as your gift isn’t meant to be wielded without risk. A power like yours will always come with danger."

He reached out and gently cupped her cheek. "But you’re not alone in this. You have me. Whatever happens, we’ll face it together."

Primrose murmured, "But what if I lose control? What if I end up hurting someone I care about?"
