Edmund nodded. "I can change my hair color, eye color, even my height a little. It’s not a perfect disguise, but it’s good enough to fool most people."
Primrose’s eyes lit up with excitement when she heard that. She couldn’t help but imagine what he might look like after changing his appearance.
She was just about to ask him to show her, but before she could say a word, she sneezed a few times in a row.
Her nose started to sting a little from breathing in too much cold air, and her body began to tremble. She’d been in wet clothes for too long, and her damp hair kept dripping onto her face and shoulders, making her even colder.
"Let’s get you warm and dry first." Edmund wrapped an arm around her waist and led her gently into the palace, rubbing her arm softly as they walked, trying to give her a little warmth.
He asked the maids to help Primrose clean up and change into dry clothes. But before she stepped away, he leaned in and said, "I’ll be sleeping in your room." Then he added, "So after you get dressed, don’t go anywhere, just wait for me there."
[My wife must be so exhausted today. I think it’s better if she doesn’t go anywhere else anymore.]
Primrose didn’t argue. She simply nodded and gave him a small, warm smile. "Alright," she said softly. "I’ll wait for you."
The maids stayed quiet as they helped her wash and change, even Marielle, who usually liked to chat, kept her mouth shut. Still, Primrose could hear their minds buzzing with gossip about her and Edmund.
[I was so worried when I heard they had a fight,] Marielle thought to herself. [But it looks like they made up. They even kissed for so long!]
[Before Her Majesty came to the palace, I always thought His Majesty was cold and emotionless. But ... I guess I was wrong.]
[Since she arrived, we’ve all seen a different side of him, a side no one knew existed!]
Marielle couldn’t hide her excitement in her thoughts. [He really is the perfect example of a man who deeply loves his wife!]
Another maid quietly thought to herself, [I hope I get to experience that kind of love one day.]
Primrose winced quietly. To be honest, finding a man as sweet as Edmund felt like finding a tiny needle in a haystack.
On top of that, she had to die once, go through countless misunderstandings with him, and even gain the ability to read people’s minds just to reach this point with him.
She wasn’t saying it was impossible to find someone like Edmund, but in a world like this, he was definitely a rare gem.
"Would you like me to light a scented candle for you, Your Majesty?" asked Marielle after she finished brushing Primrose’s hair.
Primrose thought for a moment. She liked lighting scented candles at night because it helped calm her mind, but since Edmund had a sensitive sense of smell, he probably wouldn’t feel comfortable inhaling a strong scent all night.
Besides, it seemed like her husband preferred her natural scent more than any fragrance in the world.
"My husband will be sleeping in my chamber tonight, and I don’t think he likes strong scents very much," Primrose said with a smile. "Maybe you can just change the bedsheets instead."
Marielle quickly nodded. "I’ll do it right away, Your Majesty!"
She hurried the other maids to get fresh linens and began making the bed immediately. Marielle also cleaned the bedroom so thoroughly that not a single speck of dust could be seen anywhere.
The maids usually cleaned Primrose’s bedroom whenever she was out or sitting on the balcony, so she never really saw them working.
But now that she finally got to watch them work with her own eyes, she was completely speechless. They cleaned the entire room in less than ten minutes, how was that even possible?!
Back at the Duke’s manor, the maids needed at least thirty minutes to clean her smaller bedroom. But here, the beastfolk maids worked fast and efficiently, like well-trained soldiers.
Even the weaker beasts had stamina that couldn’t be underestimated.
"Do you need anything else, Your Majesty?" Marielle asked politely.
Primrose blinked a few times, pulling herself out of her thoughts. "No, that’s enough. Thank you, Marielle," she replied with a soft smile. "You can leave now."
With a slight bow, Marielle and the other maids left the room, leaving Primrose all alone. She sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for Edmund. But for some reason ... he still hadn’t come.
Was he ... not planning to sleep beside her tonight?
No ... that didn’t sound right.
Oh no. What if he was trying to release himself before coming to her? Primrose scrunched up her nose at the thought. That’s ... kind of perverted, but also, not entirely impossible.
